BD Basketball season opens with win for Lakers over Celtics!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The long awaited and eagerly anticipated BD Basketball District King League opened on Saturday March 23, 2013 in front of a packed audience and excited players proudly wearing their District colours.

After the opening ceremony the Lakers took to the court in Under 10 action against the Celtics in the Under 10 Division and secured a comfortable 20-2 victory at the Multi Purpose Sports Complex.

Tyriece Carrasco led the point scoring with 8, adding 5 rebounds. Shamoi Dore and Jahdique Winchester both scored 4 for the Lakers whilst Khamani Caul scored 2 points, 2 rebounds and 6 steals.

For the Celtics, Sahjani France scored both points and added one rebound.

In the U-13’s, District 9 beat District 4 38-16 on the back of Demoi Bradley’s 7 points, 4 steals and 3 assists.

A fairly even first quarter was blown apart in the second by District 9 as they took a 23-7 lead and were never threatened again. Terrique Springer finished with 6 points and 6 rebounds, whilst Devonte Robinson, Tishon Leonard and Ethan Khan all scored 5 baskets.

District 4 were led by Rackelle Jack’s 6 points and both Khalim Skelton and Jemoi Levons scored 3. Levons also had 4 assists in a losing effort.

In the Under 16’s, District 2 beat District 8 43-32 thanks to 15 points and 7 rebounds from Romain Minott. He also picked up 4 steals whilst Demoi Hodge had 12 points, 4 steals and 2 assists. Further scoring came from Dahmani Williams with 7 and Noel Maxwell with 4.

For District 8, Hakeem Penn had 11 points and 6 rebounds, Devorn Varlack 9 points and 3 rebounds and Neville Smith 6 points and 9 rebounds.

The last game of the opening day saw District 9 rout District 4 41-15.

Kimron Telemaque finished with 9 points, 3 steals and 3 assists as his team raced away in the second and third quarters to put the result beyond doubt. Kasean Wylie added 8 points and Jahmoi Dore 5 points and 3 rebounds.

For District 4, Jacoy Walwyn top scored with 5 points whilst Bianca Brewley, Shadim Rubaine and Ryan Alfred all scored 3.
