Baughers Bay, Fish Bay & Kingston without power due to downed utility pole

BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- A fallen utility pole in the vicinity of CSY Dock and Water & Sewerage Department (W&SD) has resulted in Baughers Bay, Fish Bay and Kingston being without power this morning, Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Motorists have also been asked to exercise caution when in the area.

It is unclear to our newsroom at this stage what caused the utility pole to fall.

BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) said the damaged pole caused an outage on the Long Bush East End Feeder.

“The affected area was isolated, and the rest of the feeder has been successfully restored, except for Baughers Bay, Fish Bay and Kingston, which remain without power. Restoration efforts are underway, and we appreciate your patience as we work to resolve the issue,” BVIEC stated.

There have been no reports of injuries.

      There are a number of poles that are leaning including one at Smugglers Cove.

      Drive through the territory and stabilize the poles.

    Pole was in a shallow hole. Like a lot of poles on the island. Could’ve been bumped causing it to lose its balance.

      I can relate..I old and shaky.
      Once in a while.if somebody bump into me I lose my balance but I yet to.level with the ground. Luckily somebody catch me or I catch myself but for a lil while I sometimes remain discombobulated uh!
      So I don't bother wid the maubi much anymore.
