Avanell Morton is honouree for 2026 Virgin Gorda Easter Festival
The Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee made the official announcement in a Facebook post on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
The 59th Virgin Gorda Easter Festival is scheduled for April 4–6, 2026, and will be held under the theme: “A Legacy to Explore and a Culture to Adore: Celebrating 59 Years and So Much More!”
'Morton contributed to the spirit, pride, and cultural heartbeat of Virgin Gorda'
The committee stated, “Mr Morton has contributed to the spirit, pride, and cultural heartbeat of Virgin Gorda, and it is only fitting that we recognise his impact during this historic 59th celebration. This year, the Festival Village will proudly carry his name as we gather for unforgettable nights of music, unity, and celebration.”
In his honour, the Festival Village for the April 2026 celebrations has been named the Avanell Morton Festival Village.
Morton contributions
Mr Morton has made tremendous contributions to sports and community development. He was elected President of the BVI Football Association (BVIFA) in June 2024, having previously served as vice-president for 12 years. He was also appointed to FIFA’s Grassroots and Amateur Football Committee for the 2025–2029 term.
Before his administrative career, Morton was a goalkeeper for the VI National Team for over 14 years and was part of the squad that won the Leeward Islands Championship in 1986. He has chaired the Virgin Gorda Football League for 20 years and has beenrecognised for his contributions to the development of youth and women’s football in the territory.
The Virgin Gorda Easter Festival originated in 1967 and has been an annual tradition for 59 years. The festival is a multi-day event that traditionally takes place over the Easter weekend, peaking on Easter Monday with a parade.
