August Monday Parade brings the capital city alive

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The August Monday Parade, one of the feature events of the Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival, brought the capital city, Road Town, to life on August 3, 2026, with its vibrant colours, variety of music, creative floats and troupes, and energetic dancing.

There were around 28 entries in the parade, including BVI Red Cross, Filipino Association, Rotary Clubs, Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs & Sports, Shooting Stars Steel Orchestra, Paradise Sky Dancers, BVI Tribe, Legacy, Culture Bearers, Echoes of Heritage, and the various princes, princesses, and queens, including Miss BVI 2026, Asha A.S. Hyndman.

Most notably in the parade were golden girl, Adaejah T. Hodge, the 2026 Commonwealth Games gold medal winner in the Women's 200m; and Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development, Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL).

The parade was led by Grand Marshall, Roberto Harrigan, aka 'Tico', who performed his duties masterfully while on stilts.

Lavida Cottoy, who is the 2026 Festival Honouree, was also part of the parade.

After the parade, the celebration continued at Lavida Cottoy Festival with live bands. They included Evolution Band, It's a Secret Band, and Pure Mass Band. The DJs were Fire Blaze & R Don.

The theme for the 2026 Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival is “Culture Rising, Hearts Aligned, VI Festival, One of a Kind,” while the official slogan is “Echoes of Heritage, Rhythm in the Mix, Celebrate Virgin Islands Festival 2026.”
