Assessments of road infrastructure ongoing but minimal impact from Erin reported

Erin dumped 9 inches of rain and brought wind gusts over 60 mph over the last 18 hours, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) reported.
Assessments ongoing
Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5) and Public Works Director Jeremy W. Hodge were out early this morning making assessments; however, initial reports are that there has been minimal impact and that the ghut clearing preparations by Hon Rymer and his team have prevented major flooding.
Public Works Department (PWD) workers were also out early clearing the road of debris, and all major roads are passable.
There have been reports, however, of a collapsed road at Little Dix Hill, just past the entrance to Jennings Hill.
It appears also that a project done up ‘Elevator Hill’ to stop water from running on one property has created another situation where the water has now moved to other properties and has caused severe flooding.
Avoid unnecessary traversing of roads
Meanwhile, motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to avoid unnecessary traversing of roads until assessment is complete.
The public is also encouraged to report any major slides or hazardous conditions in their immediate area at pwd@gov.vg or 468-9145.
At 9:00 am, Hurricane Erin was 220 miles NW of Road Town, moving WNW at 14 mph with winds of 125 mph.
