ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has described the assassination of Haitian President Mr Jovenel Moise as a ‘Heinous act’ perpetrated on a Caricom leader of Government.

Premier Fahie further expressed deep condolences to the family of the late president as well as the people of Haiti on behalf of the people of the VI.

Mr Moise was killed in an attack on his home in Port Au-Prince, Haiti, on July 7, 2021. First Lady Martine Moïse was also seriously injured in the attack.

Below is the full statement released on July 7, 2021

It is with great concern and sadness that I learned of the death of President of the Republic of Haiti Mr Jovenel Moise who was attacked by assassins and died today. This is a day of profound sadness for the people of Haiti and the Caribbean more widely.

I express my deepest condolences to the family of the late President, and the people of Haiti, on behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands. I am mindful that we do have persons from the Republic of Haiti living in the Virgin Islands, and we sympathise with them during this most difficult time.

The assassination of a Head of Government, who was a fellow CARICOM (Caribbean Community) Political Leader in his own home is a heinous act and unacceptable in a region that cherishes democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

I join the calls for peace and unity in Haiti which is the only way for the country to return to the stability that can allow it to grow and prosper.

As a region, let us pray to God for his peace to reign in Haiti and across the Caribbean region.

But in the end sorry to hear what happen

The short answer to that is yes. Look how much organised crime there is already; and how there are almost no effective systems and controls in Government, despite some really excellent public servants like the AG, DPP and Auditor General. That is very clear from the CoI.

I wish to join the Hon. Premier with his words of sympathy as a result of the death of the President of Haiti. Unless the people of Haiti can unite and pool their resource to build the economy, there will always be difficult times in the country. From what was once the richest country in the Caribbean to become the poorest country is as a result of the foreign influence. From France to the United States who raped the wealth of Haiti and have the people in an impoverish state.

As we are experiencing here with the Commission of Enquiry, the Imperialist will not allow any BLACK NATION to strive for self determination. Most of the gold of Haiti was taken to the United States when they invaded the country in 1948 and they installed Papa Dock De Valliere to continue to exploit and murder the citizens of that country. If any one is in doubt they can read the facts on the Google about American Influence in the Caribbean. You will cry when you read what foreigners did to the people and the economy of that country.
