ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI—Motorists and pedestrians alike will be keeping their fingers crossed that the deplorable roads in Sea Cows and along the way to West End will be improved this month, as promised.

“Asphalt resurfacing from Sea Cows Bay to the West End Ferry Terminal is slated for November 2024,” Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) announced in his Budget Address on Monday, November 11, 2024.

Dr Wheatley stated that in 2024, the Ministry of Communications and Works spearheaded several road rehabilitation projects such as in Fahie Hill, Sabbath Hill, Brewers Bay, Ballast Bay, Mayaba, Cane Garden Bay and in front of the Ebenezer Thomas Primary School in Sea Cows Bay.

He said asphalt resurfacing was done from Gene Hill to Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, East End and in Jost van Dyke, “with more work scheduled for November 2024.”

$60,689,000 has been allocated in the 2025 Budget for capital expenditure. $52,500,200 is to fund development projects and $8,188,800 is to fund capital acquisitions.

Asphalt resurfacing is just that. No guarantee that there’ll be repairs to substrate or drainage. The heavy goods vehicles will soon trash it.
Of course, not cost for this project. Not needed where accountability is a theoretical and fact free concept.

      Racing between the lines:
"We'll do more patching, and then hope the places that continue to be a reoccurring problem, over and over again, will just go away."

Can we try instead, Hon. Premier, to do legitimate repairs instead of mere patches?

The government is short of resources. Why are we "rehabilitating" bad roads? Resurfacing is a complete waste of our money without establishment of proper substrate and drainage. We'll be right back here, twice as broke, in a few years. These children have no business managing our finances.

asphalt remover has been in SB for nearly 6 months. For the few days that it did operate it did a very poor job of asphalt removal in SCB. Why will things be any different now? Doubt Fraser will make any road improvements during his short time in the re organized VIP government.

Well Fraser is deputy now, so anytime Slowande turn his back Fraser will start from SCB. Fraser can't wait for Slowande to catch a plane so he can be hail as Premier.

This is just politrixing. They did the same thing last year with the little piece of road by QE park, Started it just before Christmas and abandon it before the New Year causing accidents and multiple near misses and it is still incomplete nearly one year later. It appears there is no Engineers in PWD but at least please design a little hump bridge next to the Community center so the water and stones can flow under it out to sea. For every good shower of rain we get that area is blocked and the road dug up and PWD just come and scrape up the debris and wait by their trucks and tractors for the next shower of rain. They might as well just park the trucks and tractor next to the Asphalt remover and wait for the next shower of rain.

They broke the machine months ago. Nothing will happen. The machine is parked rusting away and engulfed in bush like most govt funded equipment here. Is this clown delusional ?

Want to execute a road project or any project at all just give the PWD that has zero engineers. These people are so retarded, they first make Sea Cows Bay road as bad as East End Roads before tourist season starts. They didn't repair it right away, then went all the way Hodges Creek to make the East End roads more of a nightmare for drivers at the start of the tourist season. Can someone actually do a COI on these people's priorities? My vehicle is being destroyed on these bad roads no matter how careful I drive. I have to be choosing the better pot holes to drive in. This is gross negligence.
