Argel A. Horton new 2nd President of Rotaract VG
Ms Horton who was once featured as this news site’s Young Professional was officially installed on Sunday July 5, 2015 at a gala event, “Casino Royale” at The Top of the Baths Restaurant.
In delivering her inaugural speech Ms Horton noted that she sees the group as a gift to the Virgin Gorda Community. “I look at us as being the community’s gift, assisting and proving the island and its people with items that they were unable to provide for themselves. And I am sure through our various support, they were indeed thankful.
She noted that in addition to creating a change within the community, members too have changed. “We were once a group of strangers that had a common goal that eventually became a family. We’ve laughed together, we’ve celebrated together, we’ve conducted memorable fellowships together (some I cannot mention but were indeed fun) and sadly we’ve even argued together. However, throughout these crazy but exciting scenarios we grew closer together.”
And she challenged her members, “My fellow Rotaractors, let us be a gift to the BVI and to the world. Let us pour our hearts out as we show them how much we care as we serve from within. Let us not fall short and forget our purpose. We are this territory’s future.”
The evening’s programme was chaired by Past President of the Rotary Club of Road Town, Trefor A. Grant, and featured a dance by Director of Community Service, Christine Stevens, a brief farewell speech by Charter President Kyle I. Harrigan and also the address given by the guest speaker of the evening, Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn.
The new board is made up of President Argel A. Horton, Vice President Chayne Defreitas, Secretary Mickesha Delpleshe, Immediate Past President Kyle I. Harrigan, Seargent at Arms Jelonie Willie, Treasurer Sheena Creque, Community Service Director Christine Stevens, International Service Director Dwayne Lennard Jr., Professional Development Director Sasha D. A. Flax, Club Service Director Deondre Rymer and Public Relations Keyonna Farrington.
The Rotaract Club of Virgin Gorda was chartered on February 1, 2014 with over 20 members between the ages of 18 and 30. The Rotaract Club of Virgin Gorda meets every Friday at 6:30 pm at the Virgin Gorda Administration Complex, Vanterpool Building. Interested members are asked to contact President Argel A.
