‘Are VIslanders only good to cast votes?’- Radio caller asks

The new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Paula G. Chester-Cumberbatch, was given the nod over local applicant Dr Ronald E. Georges and she will be replacing Darlene Carty-Baptiste in early October of this year.
Using the airwaves to voice their displeasure, several callers to the radio show said this is not the first time that a non-native has swept top positions in the territory and it is not a good practice.
One caller referred to the matter as “ludicrous” saying that the locals should be “up in arms” about the whole situation. He questioned the reason behind the matter, adding that there are locals that attended colleges and universities who are capable of doing the job.
Only good for a vote?
A female caller who also added her voice to the discussion queried whether VIslanders were only good to cast votes and they are forgotten right afterward? “This is nothing new,” the female caller said in disgust.
This news site had first and accurately reported on the name of the new BVIHSA CEO on Monday September 5, 2016, following which the BVIHSA confirmed our story at a press conference the same day at Peebles Hospital.
A total of 22 applicants were said to have shown an interest in the post.
Chester-Cumberbatch’s duties include management of Peebles Hospital and all other medical facilities, be an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors as well as handle the communication and marketing arm of the BVIHSA.
This could cause a problem-Wheatley
“There is a general feeling which I get from local people that they no longer feel that they have a stake in their territory and this is very disturbing to them because they see benefits going to others and this is something that we have to be careful with in dealing with that situation, it can create a problem,” Wheatley opined.
He said the authorities may have to consider going back to the drawing board.
In 2012 almost one year after Chester-Cumberbatch was fired as Chief Executive Officer of the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) for not issuing suspension letters to medical professionals under investigation in the death of a young mother, she was appointed in the same position, only this time in the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA).

The people leave just like why you left your country for opportunity but the jackasses here on a 40mile territory took the advantage of local employment for local ppl to help themselves and now that they are the legislators have abandoned the common sense
I suppose that there are other people in the world more qualified than all the Caribbean people who hold positions in their various countries in the Region, but those Caribbean nations do not invite the brightest in the world to apply for those national positions just because there are more qualified persons. That must have something to do with the values of a country in fostering the welfare and development of its own nationals, and the capacity of the leaders of those countries to identify with the people they lead. But of course, that would be highly unreasonable in the BVI, which apparently exists to develop every other country's nationals while its own are decimated by the decisions made by the elected leaders against the electorate. i encourage our politicians to see what has happened to native populations in North America and Australia. What a ROV (return on vote!) for BVislanders
