ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Two BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) employees, a Mrs Rosemary R. Rosan- Jones aka ‘Cindy’ and Esther N. Fraser, have emerged as the faces of a smear campaign against locals, and resorting to telling lies, bullying and what many described as spewing hate in the public domain.

Esther N. Fraser

As for Ms Fraser, many of Virgin Islands News Online's (VINO) loyal advertisers called in the past week to report how much they have been harassed, bullied and threatened by this BVI Tourist Board staff, who has been telling them to pull their ads from VINO over a cartoon many residents concluded was ‘much to do about nothing.’

For some 5 years now VINO has been posting cartoons, a popular feature on its online news site, that reflects humour and irony, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and topical issues.

The cartoon in question was a depiction from the Claude O. Skelton-Cline's show, Honestly Speaking, in which Mr Skelton-Cline stated that the Governor and the UK have their feet on the neck of Virgin Islands' residents and by extension the Government.

Cartoon talk- local haters

The cartoon depicted that image as described by the radio commentator and Mr Skelton-Cline himself said the satire was accurate as to what he said on his show.

However, the likes of Ms Fraser from the BVITB, a public officer Geraldine Ritter-Freeman, a political candidate Aaron F. Parillon, along with a preacher Dr Michael A. Turnbull, twisted the cartoon, claiming it was in poor taste and that it had made light of the killing in the United States of Mr George F. Floyd Jr by a white racist police.

VINO had adequately explained the cartoon which was accepted by the public and the local ‘Black Lives Matter’ Movement organisers insisted that this petty issue of the cartoon must not be used to hijack the critical message of police brutality and racism- both locally and in the United States- in their march of last month.

Advertisers reject bullying & intimidation from Ms Fraser

Ms Fraser, according to four VINO advertisers, continue to call and email them, “even threatening to boycott" their businesses for keeping their ads on VINO.

The businesses; however, have stood firm against hate, bullying, intimidation and threats from her and others.

It is unclear if her emails were sent while she was on duty at the BVITB or what her job is at the Board, or if the bullying and threats by Ms Fraser have been reported to the police under the Cyber Act.

One critic of Ms Fraser noted, “it’s sad when another Virgin Islander will try and take food out of people's mouth over a cartoon. This is a new low.”

Cindy R. Rosan- Jones

Meanwhile, Mrs Rosan-Jones, another BVI Tourist Board employee, has taken to the airways in her new talk show ‘Cut Deep’ to criticise the Government and accused persons of corruption.

She has a history of criticising governments via her social media Facebook Page, but many said she is “more talk than substance”. One person who works with her told our newsroom, on condition of anonymity, “she is just a full time critic, so do not take her serious, but she has never offered a solution, just the usual blah, blah, chatter. I think she is overrated.”

Hon Willock responded

Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Julian Willock, in an invited comment this morning, noted “I got a ton of WhatApps last night [June 30, 2020] saying “she was on me…however, I  am a strong advocate for free speech, but Cindy could use her time better fighting for justice and not being seen as part of the problem or just another jealous oppressor of locals.”

In her show aired last evening on 284 Media platform, Mrs Rosan-Jones accused the Speaker of ‘picking a fight with the governor’.

When asked about this, Honourable Willock stated “it’s clear that the young lady is misguided. I am not aware that I am fighting with anyone. What I have sought to do as the Speaker of the House of Assembly is to help to educate the public on the importance of the separation of powers and that one cannot interfere with the other. If that is what she claims is a fight then she is divorced from logic and  facts.”

Use time to fight for justice-Speaker

Hon Willock said there are so much more weighty issues facing us as a people, so she needs to stop her madness and propaganda against locals and instead fight for justice.

"There are serious issues in the Territory like injustice and discrimination in the trust companies and in many private businesses like the Yachting-Marine sectors, domestic violence, children still going to bed hungry, sexism and  sexual harassment on the job, and the unfair legal system where locals continue to suffer disproportionately, where is her voice?"

Hon Willock continued: “I think Cindy, my cousin, has long lost her credibility, so she is grasping for straws in still talking about a cartoon”.

The Speaker noted: “I expected that after her sister passed, my dear cousin and Attorney Charmaine, of blessed memory, Cindy would have emerged as a the voice to champion issues of injustice, issues of fairness in employment and fair play for Virgin Islanders, but instead she is just reduced to hate for locals and lashing out at the government of the day without offering one solution.

"But I guess it's called free speech so let her continue to get her three minutes in the headlines, she deserves it and I love her, but for me she has lost her standing, both from a professional and social way, but all I will ask her is when she involves my name she stays on the side of facts and accurate information,” Hon Willock stated.

Rosan for the 7th district?

In the 2019 general election, Mrs Rosan-Jones claimed she had a group of over 50 persons in support of her causes; however, could not even find one to form a new political party. Many of her critics claimed they are waiting for her name to appear on a general election ballot, as she would have received the “biggest rejection of her life”.

When asked to comment on that issue of whether she is electable, Hon Willock noted: “that sounds like politics and I do not comment on politics.”

Meanwhile, when Mrs Rosan-Jones was asked why she believed the Speaker is looking to pick a fight with the Governor, she said she did not recall saying the Speaker is fighting with the governor. "My precise words were, that the speaker owns the majority shares in VINO, so is it fair to say he too is fighting with the Governor?"

It is unclear what VINO or Mr Willock being the founder of VINO have to do with the Governor or how this somehow relates to Mr Willock being inclined to pick a fight with the Governor.

Further, Mr Willock has reiterated before he has no editorial control over VINO.

Meanwhile, Ms Esther N. Fraser did not respond to our request for comments.

I have quietly observed events recently with the BLM march and related discussions. I do support free speech and totally totally against racism. I want to bring attention to what I will call “degrees of attention”. I propose that the same level of pushback we present against racism and any kind of ism from the white man or who ever, let us be as aggressive with holding ourselves accountable for doing what is right proper, and just. Let us hold our politicians fully accountable and our own people accountable when they do wrong As far as these ladies go it is not always “what” but sometimes it is “how” we do what we do. Let us not allow our conduct and behavior to feed into the pre-existing negative narrative of “us” as black people. I remember Lorna Smith on UK TV and how she was references after. Do not be overpowered purely by emotions and miss the “truths” of the matter.

      This!

In the rush to degrade the individuals, the sheeple are missing the essential comments put forth.

Further to that if the comments put forth aren’t congruent with the truth, how have you addressed this?
      No
We would rather engage in the same hateful nasty speech that you accuse them of having. You(commenters) also offer no alternative criticism or comments on whether she is telling the truth!
Simply because you don’t know! And you wouldn’t go and find out. But guess what I don’t know either but unlike you. I am going to find out.

Let me ask you this though
Should I be loyal to a man or a business because he is black like me?, black owned?
Or should I be loyal to the man or business that deserves it?
The one where I have received value for my effort?
Should I stay loyal while this black man or business is trying to kill me?
      Because am black?

      Is that how we play?

      Wake up meson!

While I don't agree with Cindy's approach many times and Esther have no behavior at times, I totally disagree that they have hate for local people. Cindy and Esther is well within their rights to speak about issues we face in the Virgins Islands. They may get passionate at times, but I am sure they both mean well for the territory. They have both advocated time and time again for the love for their BVI. Being in disagreement about policies and positions taken in the territory that affect us, should not by any means question their patriotism. Being in disagreement does not mean they hate who is in position of authority. It is important to learn that we can disagree and still live in unity.

Pure manure was spewing from her mouth. She thinks by speaking out against the government that she works for makes her brave or a freedom fighter but from what I listened to and heard she comes across more as disgruntled and miserable. The government has been in power for just over a year and she expects them to make water in wine. Less than 3 months into power she was already being a pessimist so it not unexpected that she would think that VIP is NDP on steriods which makes absolutely no sense. NDP had walls (ESHS) and roads (Georgie hill) that costed over $1 million. Pier Park and BVI Airways which ended in so much drama and millions lost/overspent. A poorly planned NHI that continues to lose more money that it makes which defeats the rationale of why it was implemented in the first place. It's hard to find any government in the world that chooses their enemies or opponents to be a part of their team. We have been kept informed more during this government than any other government in BVI history and that's a fact. From the fast track, corona virus, even the changing of the traffic flow updates, videos, posters have been frequent. She should form her own party if she wants a government to cater to her every whim and do everything that she would like. The only thing VIP has done to even be mentioned in the same category as NDP is hiring CSC as a consultant. The whole tirade on cut deep seems personal and to most people it would be if you got suspended or received warning letters.

Well my grandmother big toe! Premier an example needs to be set. Its too long now. I think these 2 ladies forget that when you work for Government, you behave a certain way. Cindy has gotten a way for long with murder that her behavior has now become a part of her everyday life. The world is looking at us and it doesn't look good. Every minute Cindy strikes. People just know she is not alone. Another name has surface today which isn't shocking as madam Esther was one of the candidates that was suppose to contest the 2019 General elections with Cindy team. That would a been one wasteful party!!! Esther is a person who is probably worse off than cindy. When you talk about disrespectful and a bully that is ...................... i know some people don't support Cindy about passing the law on Weed because they live on it. One time i saw one of them at one of TB events and i was in shocked. two loose canons that needs demoting. Clearly they are sending a clear message to the Premier that they don't have enough work on their hands. Premier we have bigger fish to fry like jump starting our Tourism product! Get rid of the unwanted weight. Both ladies have nothing good to say about the Government much less the people of this Country. Very shameful. I am hoping that you will fix this situation quickly premier. GET RID OF THESE LADIES! RELOCATE THEM! OR MAKE THEIR POSTS REDUNDANT!
