Apology not enough! East withdraws from VG Summer Jam League
The club, in a social media post on November 2, 2026, said it acknowledges receipt of the written apology. “However, an apology must be backed by genuine remorse, accountability, and meaningful action.”
Apology not convincing enough!
It said its players remain unconvinced that the apology reflects the personal remorse needed to address what transpired and restore trust.
“As a result, East Basketball Club has made the difficult decision to stand and withdraw from the VG Summer Jam 2026 Basketball League.
“This decision is not taken lightly, but we must make a stand to ensure that our players feel respected, valued, and protected.”
VG Summer Jam confirms East's exit
Efforts to get a comment from the team’s coach, Nehassie Chalwell, proved futile up to the time of publication; however, a member of the VG Summer Jam Committee confirmed to our News Centre that East Basketball Club had withdrawn from the 2026 league, saying: “They are not in the league anymore.”
The member, however, declined to offer any further comment.
Meanwhile, East, the champions of the 2026 Winston Bolus National District League, have apologised to their fans and supporters.
“We sincerely apologise for this decision. We understand your love for the team and the sport, and we encourage you to continue supporting Summer Jam. There are still great teams and exciting games to enjoy.”
