ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Governor Daniel Pruce has said the upcoming Anti-Crime Summit needs to have “real substance” for it to be effective in tackling increasing crime in the Virgin Islands (VI).

During a press conference on August 26, 2025, Governor Pruce was asked whether he thinks a summit is the answer to increasing crimes in the Territory at this time.

“I think the summit provides a great opportunity, as we saw at the launch, to bring together the full range of stakeholders that can make a difference in tackling crime in the Virgin Islands,” Governor Pruce responded.

An Anti-Crime Summit is scheduled to take place in the territory from September 24-26, 2025. The summit, the brainchild of Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), was launched with a march and youth rally in Huntums Ghut on August 15, 2025.

According to Governor Pruce, addressing crime in the VI is not just for the police, prisons, and government but must include “a breadth of engagement” across government, civil society, voluntary organisations and reaching into the communities.

Anti-Crime Summit can’t be a meeting 'with no follow-up '

“I think the summit can provide a focal point for really strengthening that coalition across all those different areas, but… It’s got to have real meaning; it can’t just be a meeting with no follow-up,” Governor Pruce continued.

The challenge, he said, now sits with the National Security Council (NSC) and officials who have been tasked with overseeing the preparations for the Anti-Crime Summit.

Governor Pruce said they must ensure that “we arrive at the summit already with a good set of commitments, declarations, statements of intent in terms of what we are going to do via follow-up to translate the ambition of the summit into real, practical change”.

The NSC, he said, will continue to discuss the summit’s preparations on a “very intense and regular basis”.

Governor Pruce also reiterated that a solid line of work is needed in addressing the crime situation in the Territory, moving beyond the Anti-Crime Summit.

They have the police going to the bars drinking cooping locals. Meanwhile local people including the sick and Rastafari are ignored and forced to get adulterated medicine from bad people on the street who want to sell substances that 99% BVI people reject. What they love in the United K.

All of this crime did not rise up in one day, the force is filled with foreign police cooping out our people who they do not know. They ask strange questions to harass in our own neighborhood. They retire and become prejudice security guards. Its a situation of hiring mercenaries to prey on locals instead of doing the legislative work to fix the system and stop funding crime stop.

We do not want crime and everyone including the governor has a role to play otherwise there will be no real substance to that summit.

The truth is, that crimes is universal in various ways without boundaries, such as nationality, ethnicity, culturally, educationally, religiouslly, socially, politically, economically, apperiancely etc.

In order for the National Crimes mentioned, and those not must be address deeply address without biasness. If not, round and round, and round, and crimes spiking continuing we go, when crimes stop we don't know.

The tip head of arrows is what penetrates in order for the tail fins to pass through. Leaders are like kings. Leaders are like and train engines. The other carriage attached to it, and each others, except for unknown interruption assure a safe journey (genuine) Anti-Crimes Security for all peoples here in the B.V.I the same as everywhere on this earth.

God is Love. Practical genuine Love, only, is God. Amen.

get serious about the youths and i can tell you we will see a drop in crime. The older criminals are giving or selling them guns like is toys.

then those same youths form gangs or commit various crimes.

then their actions get reinforce by the new "culture" that the youths call which is mostly about sex, drugs, fast life, half naked women and minors and vulgar grind fest.

then reinforced again by the very popular dancehall music played and promoted at festivals and funded events. listen to just one dancehall song and you will see what im talking about

reforce again at churches now cuz we got Hoy** playing jam band music in church....some might see it as okay and others no so much. Read the comments on that post and see how many young people say "boy i almost forget where i was." ................ if music that promoted God reminding you about wukkinh up and fete which involves grinding and half naked women what does that say about the song being played?? so now the youths who raised right and dont go fete will now hear juve songs and feel more acceptable to go them big orgy dances....vice versa and fete youths come church only to hear the fete music praising God .................but them body start getting muscle memory to wuk up....oh boi and them brain start thinking about jouvert and fete...........mind done off of God alrdy oh boi...

imagine you go to a church and fee like you in club or at a bar or on the festival grounds just from hearing the musician

i dont mind jouverte and fete but them thing mostly attract criminals and people of low character. dont forget this year with a had youths attending it with a gun then we had the breakout of fights over woman and man smh. drunk people too oh boi

and wa happen to that info from andrew fahie case where it have certain businessmen bring in guns via containers hidden in clothes and them stuff??? we just going ignore them and gov official 1??

Crimes are harmful knowledgeable actions, and in some cases, inactions against other humans, self included, and animal, etc., too. Because of the uneracible, but often denied truth, all leaders should lead in the path of Anti-crimes pathway, if they truly are serious about the curbing of criminal activities against humanity in the BVI.

In reference to the Ant-crimes Summit to happen September 24-26, all criminal activities need to be seriously discuss, included political associate ones, both lawful, and unlawful ones, if not, the coming Anti-crime Summit later this Month will be just as others vextation--of-the spirit useless political exercise empty of water drywells talk, but not of lies, and deceptions tactics.
However, it is better to try not to fail than to fail without trying to prevail.

Pray honestly without ceasing will take a big bite out of crimes in the B.V.I. Failing to pray honestly, and daily in faith believing, working wisely, and skillfully does the opposite.

There needs to be proper enforcement of existing laws followed up with convictions and sentencing that involves real time. This place is a joke and that’s why people young and old commit crimes here with impunity. They know there’s no enforcement and even if they do get caught chances are pretty good they’ll get off and worst case scenario if they do get convicted they will be given a slap on the wrist sentence. We have career criminals burglars, rapists, murderers, and known drug dealers roaming the territory that are known by everyone and yet we have no interest in actually getting them off the streets. Ironically we choose to elevate these people to the level of high society and refer to them as “businessmen”! Until this culture changes crime will continue to grow as it’s a career path in the BVI for the youth.
