ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Angelle Cameron was crowned Mrs British Virgin Islands at a fundraising Gala themed Las Vegas Night and held by the WIN BVI Organisation to support the BVI Diabetic Association's Youth Diabetic Fund at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on March 19, 2016.

WIN BVI, a global women’s empowerment organisation, branded the Mrs BVI Lifestyle Challenge, focuses on partnerships for married women to be spokespersons and ambassadors for charities within the purview of the group’s mandate.

Mrs Cameron, who was among other candidates interviewed for the role, was unveiled as the 2016 Mrs BVI Life Challenge candidate. Her platform focuses on environmental sustainability and expressed the need for the community to preserve the natural resources and beauty of the Virgin Islands for generations to come.

In presenting her platform, Mrs Cameron presented solutions on how we can sustain the purity of our environment in a world that is saturated with modern technology.

She said, “We must first set long term goals that will help steer public policies and actions in the right direction towards environmental sustainability. The old saying goes it takes a village to raise a child and these Virgin Islands are our children and it is our job to help maintain and raise the standards as it relates to protecting its beauty and natural resources.

“I believe we should lobby to integrate principles of sustainable development into public polices, do our part to help reduce atmospheric pollution, limit where possible, the loss of bio diversity and our natural resources and confirm to a lifestyle where we reduce, reuse, and recycle.”

New voice of BVI Diabetic Association

The evening also highlighted the BVI Diabetic Association and Mrs Cameron pledged to become the new voice behind the diabetic association and help steer the message of living a long healthy lifestyle to curb and in most cases take care of one’s diabetic situation. Mrs Cameron then concluded by stating that she looks forward to a collaborative year of putting country above self.

Mr Allan Rhymer of the BVI Diabetic Association addressed the audience to share the Diabetes Association’s developments and the need for community support. He reinforced the reasons for the centre and the services available at their office on lower Main Street.

Mr Rhymer also provided a personal testimony of his own lifestyle and encouraged persons to do the same and to seek relevant information which is all available at the resource centre.

Meanwhile, in presenting herself to the public, Mrs Cameron showcased pieces from local designers and enterprises such as Trefle, Beautiful by Jasanay, Hilda Designs and Unlimited by Germaine.

The evening also saw performances by Monique Chapdelaine, Sasha O. E. Wintz, Miss World BVI, Janae Estridge, Thea Cooke, Asha visiting artist from St Maarten, tap dancer from St Thomas Cubie George, Tune House, New Royal Ensemble and the sounds of HLSCC Stingrays Band.

She is indeed a beautiful lady and her black dress is gorgeous BUTTTT! I would like to know how are these ladies picked? who were the other "contestants"? what are the requirements? What determines the winner?

There is not a physical show. The person is selected by the committee to represent the BVI in the international show in China. The criteria to represent is you have to be married, show how you balance your personal and professional life.

It's the same as the other pageants ... just that the contests can be married and have kids
