THE SETTLEMENT, Anegada, VI- Residents of Anegada have expressed disappointment at the closure of the Auguste George Airport, which is reportedly due to the fire tender being removed from that island and taken to Taddy Bay Airport on Virgin Gorda, since the fire tender there has developed some issues.

According to upset residents of Anegada, a resident needed to be airlifted from Anegada on Saturday morning, December 2, 2023, but no aircraft could have come to the island due to the airport closure.

The BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) has since issued a notice today, December 3, 2023, saying the decision to temporarily close the Anegada Airport was a carefully considered operational choice aimed at mitigating potential adverse impacts on the Territory as a whole.

“We want to assure you that various options were thoroughly explored to keep the airport open; however, due to certain operational constraints, this unfortunately could not be achieved.”

Medivacs permitted- BVIAA

In prioritising the safety and well-being of the Anegada community; however, the BVIAA said special permission has been sort and granted for the operation of medivac flights during the closure. “This proactive measure ensures that in the unlikely event of an emergency, immediate and necessary medical assistance can be provided to those in need on the island,” the BVIAA stated.

Both Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) and Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) Kurt A.G. Menal did not respond to our query as to when the airport on Anegada would be reopened and what was the plan regarding fire trucks to keep the airports open.

The BVIAA in the press release; however, said the authority is actively addressing the substantive issues, “and we are committed to ensuring the prompt return of the fire tender to Anegada within the next few days.”

How many fire trucks could have been purchased with the money that the premier squandered organizing that useless festival party?

so instead of paying fedex to fly in the part for the truck on VG which is needed they instead pay forthe fire truck to come from Anegada to VG and then will have to hire a seperate barge if it is to be returned in the few days as mentioned as no barge is due until next saturday. So about $4000 to fix a $400 probelm... seems about right

Why should the fire truck be donated when the government insists on wasting money?

Every country should have its basic/essential needs taken care of by its government. A fire truck is an essential need in order for an airport to operate. Private businesses should not have to provide such items.
Government Leaders need to take stock of what we need and get it done. We are definitely heading fully into a third world status.

For real, they need to train someone with basic common sense. I agree, the people of Anegada should have block their fire truck from leaving Anegada. How is it that you let someone come and just take your fire truck like that. For real, people here only have mouth and when it come time for action they go silent and retreat behind closed curtains and duck down behind parked cars shaking like they are afraid of the big bad boogie man.

The truck VG sitting in salt water all the time. The bright people put trucks that cost 100,000s for dollars in place and not building a garage to house that cost less than 100k. The VG truck is parked at the beach. Where there is no vision. The people perish. When they first bought the new trucks years ago. I say this and told the BVIAA, they said it is not needed. When you cannot see past your nose and your ears blocked with hard wax.

Scuba divers is bringing in the drugs under water to Anegada at nights. Remember a few weeks ago when packages of cocaine was found floating in the harbor in Road Town? That was a test run. The new way of getting the drugs into the BVI is by trained scuba divers.

Why can’t you the people that lives in Anegada raise money and purchase your own fire truck. You have to stop this thing about give me, give me. And the Government must or sitting back waiting for the Government to give you all everything. Same as the bush thing, when my father and grandfather was alive, they use to go and cut the bushes that was growing along the side of the road in their village. The problem is that you guys are to damn lazy and think everything you do is about money.Hell, you ask someone for the time, they want money.
  • Well Well (04/12/2023, 07:11) Like (5) Dislike (0) Reply
With all the mouth you guys have, why did you allow them to take your fire truck to VG. You people should have blocked them from taking your fire truck. Suppose a major fire break out on Anegada. I guess they will be bailing water from the sea with buckets to put out the fire. Anegada is the drug drop off hub in the BVI.

Anegadians, fundraise and buy your own fire truck. Organize so that you can do for yourselves as much as you are capable of doing and at the same time hold the Government responsible.
