Anegada fishermen hoping for good catch for Lobster Fest 2013
This was the concern especially from prominent Anegada businessman and fisherman Mr Wilfred M. Creque. He told Virgin Islands News Online he is praying for good weather to prevail over the few weeks to allow for good catches.
“Right now we can’t go too far because the water is really bad especially with the rains. We know that we got good catches waiting out there but it’s getting to them at this time with the rain that I am particularly concerned about,” said Mr Creque.
He said the season started around November 7, 2013 and they were already experiencing some challenges, only pulling in some medium sized and small lobsters. At the time of speaking with this news site, November 8, 2013, Mr Creque was cleaning and preparing a small catch for dinner guests at his Lobster Trap Restaurant and Bar.
Similar concerns were expressed by other fishermen in the area. One businessman said the fishermen would be working as a group to ensure there is sufficient lobster in stock for Lobster Festival 2013.
“We understand the sample sale idea but we know that there are many persons who would be coming to buy a solid lobster meal so while we are sure that we will have enough to satisfy the requirements for the sampling, we are working towards having enough for dinner, lunch or whatever lobster meals persons would be wanting when they come,” said the businessman.
Anticipation is high on Anegada as private individuals and business operators are optimistic that business will be at an all time high on the sister island from the beginning of the final week in November 2013 and peaking for Restaurant Week activities scheduled for Friday November 29, and Lobster Festival on November 30 and December 1, 2013.
