Anderson’s September sailing includes NEISA Sailor of the Week!
The Roger Williams University Sailing team kicked off the Fall 2012 season by hitting the water at four separate regattas, including the Pine Trophy, hosted by Coast Guard. RWU came away with a runner-up finish in the nine-team event.
Alec Anderson (Tortola, BVI), Matthew Paige, Annie Schmidt and Dylan Vogel totaled 31 points at the event; just nine points shy of regatta winner Yale University. The Hawks won three of the nine races overall in addition to two runner-up finishes, but a DNF in the second-to-last race kept the Hawks out of contention for the win.
During the month, Anderson and Alyssa Seifert (Duxbury, Mass.) were named NEISA Coed Sailors of the Week and RWU Athletes of the Week.
The two finished the week with a dominating performance in A Division at the Hatch Brown at MIT in Boston. The pair won nine of 15 races on the shifty Charles River. The duo seemed to have the River tamed for most of the weekend. Their performance won A-division and helped the Hawks finish fourth overall at the event.
This marks the first time on the young season that the Hawks have been honored with a NEISA Sailor of the Week selection.
The following weekend, one of the Hawks' best results came at the Danmark Trophy, hosted by Coast Guard. The Hawks notched a tenth-place finish among the twenty teams in contention.
Alec Anderson and Bianca Rom teamed together to finish third at A Division. The duo placed sixth or better in five of the nine races, including a pair of runner-up finishes. Connor Needham and Abby Preston took 13th place at B Division, rolling off five top-ten finishes on the weekend.
The month ended at the Hatch Brown Trophy, hosted by MIT, were RWU claimed fourth place overall from the 18 teams competing. Alec Anderson and Alyssa Seifert had a strong performance at A Division, winning the division by seven points. The pair pulled off an astonishing nine wins out of 15 races. At B Division, Tyler Macdonald and Breanne Baldino grabbed eighth place, coming away with five top-six finishes, including a win in the 13th race. Andrew Tamblyn and Joshua Gershuny took 12th place at C Division while earning four third-place finishes.
