ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- American Airlines is scheduled to make a test flight to the [British] Virgin Islands (VI) next month, ahead of commencing direct flights from Miami on June 1, 2023.

Information regarding the test flight was disclosed by Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) during the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) closing rally in the area of One Stop Mall in Road Town, Tortola last night, Saturday, April 23, 2023.

Addressing the audience, Hon Rymer, who was also celebrating his birthday on Saturday, reminded that American Airlines will be landing on June 1, 2023.

“We need yall to make sure the Virgin Islands Party will be there receiving this plane at the airport,” Hon Rymer stated.

Test flight in May

The Minister, who was part of the negotiations to get American Airlines to provide direct flights to the VI from Miami, then made the announcement about the scheduled test flight.

“Let me tell you a little secret, they called me from American Airlines and say that they are doing a test flight on May 23rd.”

Hon Rymer said the test flight will originate in Miami and land at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island.

“So are we going to receive this plane?” Hon Rymer.

“Yes,” the crowd responded loudly.”

Hon Rymer said he is excited about the venture and the benefits the direct flights will bring to the VI.

He also reminded that it was this Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government that made that happen.

The previous National Democratic Party (NDP) administration failed to bring direct flights to the VI and instead ended up losing $7.2M on the botched deal with BVI Airways.

Kye could not do this by himself. It was his VIP team working together over a period of time that caused this to happen. They promised it and it is coming through so it has been a VIP team effort. So we will not let anyone divide the VIP trying to single out any one member trying to cause confusion.

The VIP did not “ make it happen” thay just happen to be in power when American Airlines decided to open up a route to here.

This is not true. The VIP has been working on this for a while and kept the public informed with updates for the past two years.

having spent 7.2million for the BVI own aircraft; we still had to run out an invite Amercian Airlines into our territory; because after 8 years of NDP spending off government funds some of us still hoping to see the formation of BVI Airways

What amazes most people is this $7.2mill plane heist of our taxpayers money was never investigated or targeted heavy in the COI while so many benefit from this deal that some bought houses in Florida. Some money in accounts abroad in other countries. Ting to talk. The colonial masters are also compromised so expect to see no action on this corrupt action.

the complexion of those involved with this multi million dollar project or transition had lots to do with simply brushing that 8 mill under the rug

If that BVI Airways transaction involved our folks it would have been ting to tell King!!

PLEASE DON'T BET YOUR LIFE ON THAT BECAUSE VIP WILL BE THE NEXT GOVERNMENT. 7/6 OR 8/5 TAKE THAT TO THE BANK AND SMOKE IT.

Well the AA plane may land at Beef airport on Tues. 23 May but you won't be greeting the test plane in any official capacity.

I cringe each time I hear Politicians promise a plane. I was waiting in the lounge for the last one that "crashed".

Yes the VIP team will be there to welcome this flight. Once VIP supporters come out tomorrow to vote , NDP 1 or NDP will not have a chance again the VIP.
NDP 1 or NDP 2 has failed to list the achievements of VIP for the last 4 years and before. NDP 1 and NDP 2 gave away 7.2 millions in the wind. VIP is going this election with a leader the rest parties are hoping that VIP supporters don’t go and vote. VIP supporters please go and vote and leave Lorna and Marlon to fight and Fraser and Skeleton to battle for leadership.

The vip administration continues to take the people of the virgin islands for a fool but judging by the comments, people are work. Proud of my virgin islands. Now can Kye and his VIP crew tell me what they plan to do today about the water rights they gave away? Election day is tomorrow.

Across governments the water woes continue to be an issue even with different Ministers. The only constant was Pearline Scatliffe who has been over Water & Sewage for years and have failed the people of the BVI but now want to be elected in District 7. She blocked progress and was vindictive. Look at BVIEC and other government entities and how well they function under the same Ministers of different governments. This means Pearline was the issue for years next to Fraser with bi-water.

  • My Take (23/04/2023, 12:05) Like (24) Dislike (5) Reply
VIP has always been for the common man and closing the gap between the haves and haves not. This is why the other political groups who favor the rich only are working hard together to try to get the VIP out of office but it will never work.
