ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Close to 5000 food packages sponsored by the Government of the Virgin Islands under the Territorial Food Provisioning Programme have been distributed so far, according to Governor Augustus J. U Jaspert.

The Government of Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) is pending some $2M from the Consolidated Fund to assist seniors, vulnerable persons and the needy with food supplies during the extended COVID-19 lockdown, which will now be lifted on April 27, 2020.

Almost 5000 food packages delivered

The territory-wide food distribution, the pace of which is also dependent on suppliers, started on Monday, April 20, 2020.

“At the start of the week, I was proud to witness the food distribution programme teams at work. We know there have been teething problems, but this nonetheless has been a huge undertaking.

“Up to today almost 5,000 food packages have been delivered. We reallocated public officers to support the distribution. I would like to thank all the public officers, supermarket and delivery staff and importantly the incredible volunteers who have been working tirelessly  around the clock to distribute essential items to those in need,” Governor Jaspert stated during a live COVID-19 update to the Territory on April 24, 2020.

Registration for food supplies extended

Meanwhile, Premier Fahie said Cabinet has agreed that registration for the Territorial Food Provisioning Programme would be extended until 7:00pm on Saturday, April 25, 2020, with requests to be completed in the subsequent days.

He also reminded the public that reconciling would be undertaken to identify and prevent any double requests.

“We know it would not be easy and we know you have needs.

“That is why we made arrangements to help you to be as comfortable as possible while you are at home and while many of you are unable to work.”

Seniors, those who are vulnerable, and those who are needy or in need of some food supplies, are encouraged to call the Food Need Hotline, 852-7688.

Feedback welcomed

“Let us know if you did not receive your care package as yet so that we can fix what needs to be fixed,” Premier Fahie said, adding that Government knows the system is not yet perfect

“But we continue to push forward. We are trying. And it is only when you give us your feedback that we can identify the kinks in the system and iron them out immediately.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused along the way, and we will work to get those packages to you. Just bear with us, and help us to help you.”

Appreciation was extended to the Governor and Deputy Governor for mobilising public officers, all the Members of the Government for their untiring efforts, Members of the House of Assembly, non-profit agencies, volunteer groups and individuals, statutory agencies, private sector, protection agencies, border agencies, delivery companies, supermarkets, pharmacies and others for their part in the Territorial Food Provisioning Programme.

“As the Minister of Finance, I said that under my watch no one in this Territory would go hungry during this extended curfew period.

“When I said it, I meant it.”

This so called disease is full of lies and agendas. Think about it. They said before there is a 0.1% chance of dying from this. AMA Encylopedias in 1989 saying this is synonymous with common cold. You are the jackass in this psychological warfare operation. The hospitals are empty everywhere. There’s footage of this. Choose a side. Either you are with the government aka the d3vil, or you are with we the people. We are at this point. And it goes way deeper than this. It's about stealthy mass genocide. If you cant see it, your DUMB AS A BOX OF ROCKS! AND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE THEY NEED TO WAKE UP!

I can't believe how many sheeples are brainwashed it's one thing to wear a mask in a store but it's ridiculous when I see people wearing them driving in their cars. I even see them wearing them when no ones around and they’re out watering their gardens if it wasn't so bad it would be laughable you're actually going to get some more germs by keeping the mask on instead of getting that fresh air, lol damn y’all really believe in everything you hear on tv mehson no kinda common sense

More than 20 million car accident injuries or disabilities a year. More than a million deaths. World not taking cars off the road.

200,000 Covid deaths over the last 5 months. Shut the world down.

There is an agenda in motion.

So you are telling me, you rather be outside, catch this virus, and suffer from the symptoms? Than to stay home safe and sound in your home? Yes you might get bored and miserable but occupy your self with new abilities. When you think about it, car accidents are always because of somebody bad actions (drinking and driving, being on the phone etc). So i guess if all motor vehicles are removed from the road, you would walk every where and not complain about it then.

        @Really

I was using comparative analysis. Of course it would be nonsense to take cars off the road. Death is a part of our evolution. As for Covid, the solution is NOT to pack everybody on top of each other in their homes. You find the sick ones where you can and quarantine them. You quarantine hot spots if necessary.

People will eventually get the message and take the precautions recommended by the medical professionals. If they don't, they may die. Simple.

You do not shut down the world economy over something that can be managed by competent leaders and professionals.

A few persons said that they accidently filled the form more than once because apparently different members of the family filled it out unknown to each other. Its not like they received double package because of this though. Its just that their name might appear twice on the online list.

The problem is, even if you have money to buy food, it is difficult to buy it. Rite Way stop processing new orders for the whole of last week, One Mart shut down their site, how are you to purchase food?
