Alleged threat to shoot & pelting land Carlos Gumbs in Prison
Gumbs appeared before Magistrate Ayana Baptiste-DaBreo on Wednesday October 15, 2014 facing the charges for throwing missiles and using threatening language against Mr Rhymer.
The court heard that on February 12 at Cane Garden Bay Gumbs breached the peace while using threatening language when he told Rhymer that he was going to get a gun and shoot him before he picked up stones and threw in the direction of Rhymer.
According to what was presenting to the court by the prosecution Gumbs had approached Rhymer while at his business place taking out garbage, accusing him of telling the police information about Gumbs and it was when Rhymer retorted, “You are crazy” Gumbs became enraged and threatened to get his gun to shoot him.
Rhymer reportedly told Police Officers that because Gumbs appeared to have been in a heated rage he immediately reported the matter to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) who responded the same night but failed to locate Gumbs then.
Subsequently on May 6, 2014 at the Road Town Police Station Gumbs was informed of the allegations against him when he declined to comment and was then charged for the offenses.
Gumbs pleaded not guilty to both charges. On a previous occasion Gumbs was offered bail but as he was unable to post the money via a surety/sureties he has been remanded to prison until the conclusion of his trial.
Gumbs told the court that he was not prepared to employ the services of a lawyer but would be standing in his own defense. He is to return to court on November 14, 2014, the date set for reporting.
He is also before the court for another matter which on October 15, 2014 he was told that case will commence trial on November 17, 2014.
