Alcedo Tyson allegedly shot ex-lover in neck & abdomen, court heard
This is according to Senior Crown Counsel, Christilyn Benjamin as she outlined the particulars in the case that has captured the attention of residents. Tyson made his first court appearance this morning, Monday March 19, 2012 since he was officially charged over the week-end.
Since the charge is an indictable one, he was not required to plea before Magistrate Tamia Richards. In light of this, he will be on remand until his next court appearance on May 16, 2012.
According to the Crown, Tyson was in an intimate relationship with Kwanna Todd-Rhymer, 20, but it ended last year.
The day before she died, Ryhmer, who was an employee at Delta, worked the 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift. She and friends were hanging out at Paula’s Bar and then headed to Deuces nightclub, the court heard.
The court heard Tyson was at the night club and he and Ms. Todd-Rhymer just had a brief conversation but he was allegedly seen staring at her while she danced with friends. At around 4:15 a.m. on March 16, 2012, Rhymer left the nightclub and while she and her friends were walking towards a friend’s vehicle, it is alleged that the defendant walked past the ladies and went to a vehicle that was parked in the CSY parking lot.
Senior Crown Counsel Benjamin contends that Tyson ran back towards the women and approached Rhymer. It is alleged that he said something to her and shot her in the neck, and when she dropped to the ground, he stood over Rhymer and allegedly shot her again in the abdomen.
The court heard that the 23 year-old ran allegedly ran back to the dark coloured vehicle and it drove off. From information received, the area where the alleged shooting occurred was well lit and Tyson was allegedly not wearing any mask or head gear.
The forensic unit recovered a lead slug and two 2.45 caliber shells. The firearm has not been found.
For his part, Tyson turned in himself to police at 10:25 a.m. that same morning, but has remained tight-lipped over his alleged involvement in the incident.
He is represented by Herbert McKenzie.
