BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, USA- Virgin Islands athlete A’keela McMaster has broken the seven-year Women's Heptathlon National Record while securing the silver medal at the 2026 SWAC Outdoor Track and Field (OTF) Championship.
McMaster amassed a total of 4540 points during the championship on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Her event times are as follows: 100 Mh (15.99s), High Jump (1.58m), Shot Put(9.67m), 200M (26.11s), Long Jump (5.41m), Javelin (29.61m), and 800M (2:31.49).
In addition to setting a new National Record, McMaster also set a new Personal Best.
Other VI athletes shine
Meanwhile, Jah’kyla Morton secured the bronze medal with a 1.67m high jump at the event on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
DiaMonae Thomas had a 6th-place finish in the 100M hurdles finals while lowering her Personal Best mark to 13.63s.
The SWAC Outdoor Track and Field (OTF) Championship is an annual event which features top HBCU athletes.
