ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Two weeks after Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) announced that the Territory had requested for 30 medical officials from Cuba be sent to the Virgin Islands to help in its fight against COVID-19, the agreement is now being finalised.

“We are also finalising the agreement so that we can get the Cuban medical officials over. We were given that assurance today in Cabinet, Premier Fahie said on ZBVI 780 AM on April 9, 2020.”

Cuban medical officials will be tested & quarantined

Premier Fahie had previously disclosed that a team at the Ministry of Health and Social Development and the International Affairs Secretariat of the Premier’s Office had actively engaged with the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States [OECS] and the Cuban Government to secure resources by requesting 30 medical personnel from Cuba.

The United Kingdom, through the Governor’s Office, has already given the green light for the Cubans to come to the VI.

Hon Fahie has also said the Cuban medical officials will be tested before and when they arrive in the VI and will have to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine before they start working in the Territory.

As of 7:00am on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, Cuba had 726 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 31 deaths, according to statistics published by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“They will be quarantined for 14 days to make sure that they to go through all the measures that have been put in place,” the Premier stated.

Nothing to hide

He had also said that requesting the help of the Cubans is not because there are more than three COVID-19 cases in the Territory.

The Virgin Islands has only recorded 3 positive cases of COVID-19 and so far two of the three have since tested negative locally.

“We are not hiding anything. What we know, you the people will also know in a timely manner. They are there to help as we continue to be in a proactive mode. Not that something has gone wrong or we have a number of cases — as some persons are saying — we are trying to hide,” Premier Fahie had said on March 31, 2020.

Cuba not getting their own situation under control and we here importing doctors from a heavily infested country? My grandmother used to say :"Common Sense isn't so common anymore" And they didn't have Wi-FI, Google, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and Instagram

If this is true you must contact authorities straight away !
You could save her life and others she may have come into contact with.

Tell this person to put water to boil, shut off the stove, bend over pot with a towel around her head and inhale the steam created, until it stops. This to repeat three time a day. Virus don't survive high temperatures. Staying isolated is a very good measure but not seeking medical attention could be deadly for her. Is also irresponsible.

an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Thousands of people all over the world continue to die from this virus every day. Thousand of people all over the world continue to catch the virus each day. Why some of us think that our territory is immune from this virus, some seeking to go back to work, once back out and moving around your chances to get COVID 19 will increase. Do we have the manpower or expertise to deal with a major outbreak. Police were brought in so now doctors are coming. Anything for the benefit of BVI people is all a question. This virus have no known cure and the chance of an outbreak in BVI is real; so the political leadership should just sit back and wait or be proactive to deal with the matter should it happens

Idc what anyone says this virus is the biggest scam since 9/11 only difference is this one is global... You can’t even go down the road to get water, no freedom we now have to wait to get water that’s a natural resource... wish I was in the U.K where these guys are questioning everything and fighting back because they have a right to ! I love my island and I always use to say down here we don’t take no shit but damn y’all made me swallow my words, not because we know Andrew and gang doesn’t mean they can’t sell us out, it’s gonna get bad guys I know there are homes with little food, people with no credit on their phones to call out and say their hungry, defenseless people being tased some of y’all like that so instead of us coming together they got us divided, social distancing so we can’t come together and have a critical conversation this is our lives we’re talking about

Cuba has one of the largest cade of healthcare professionals in the Caribbean and Latin America and presently have healthcare personnel in various countries helping to fight this pandemic. Lets welcome them and utilize them as best as we can instead of bickering among ourselves.
