Afua Hirsch & Andy Mundy-Castle bring global perspective to BVI with visit to HLSCC
The event, held at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., will feature a screening of “Shoot The People,” directed by MundyCastle and produced by his film production company Doc Hearts. The documentary follows photographer and activist Misan Harriman across three continents as he documents protest movements and the fight for justice, spotlighting the resilience of grassroots organisers and the intersectionality of their campaigns. Through interviews, historical framing, and explorations of digital activism, the film examines how powerful imagery can spark awareness and change. Harriman is widely known for landmark images from the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests and for becoming the first Black man to photograph a British Vogue cover.
Following the screening, attendees are invited to engage with Hirsch and MundyCastle about the documentary and learn more about the themes informing their upcoming docu-series Power Trip. Power Trip explores postcolonial identity, governance, and the evolving future of territories with ties to Britain, including the BVI. The series looks beyond stereotypes to examine identity, autonomy, inequality, sustainability, and economic pressures through in-depth storytelling and local perspectives.
“We are honoured to be in the Virgin Islands speaking with people whose lived experiences are essential to understanding Britain’s global legacy today,” said Afua Hirsch.
“The BVI’s story is vital not only to the region but to a broader conversation about self-definition, shared futures, and the power of communities to chart their own course.”
“My goal with ‘Power Trip’ is to bring nuance, immediacy, and cinematic depth to realities that are too often oversimplified,” said Andy MundyCastle. “The BVI is a key chapter in that story, and we are excited to listen, learn, and collaborate with the community while we are here.”
“HLSCC is proud to convene timely conversations that matter and to welcome Afua Hirsch and Andy MundyCastle to our campus,” said Dr. Richard Georges, President of HLSCC. “Their visit enriches our students’ learning and amplifies the Territory’s ongoing dialogue about identity, autonomy, and the future we are shaping together.”
“This collaboration reflects our mission to support storytelling that is both globally relevant and locally grounded,” said a DLT Solutions representative. “We are pleased to partner with HLSCC to host this screening and conversation, and to support Afua and Andy as they begin filming in the Virgin Islands.”
