Adaejah T. Hodge reaches 200m final in Glasgow with Games Record

- Hodge clocked 22.01s to comfortably win her semi-final heat

GLASGOW, Scotland- Virgin Islands sprint sensation Adaejah T. Hodge has qualified for the Women's 200m Final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, on her debut appearance.

Hodge, who had received a bye to the semi-finals, cruised to a Commonwealth Games Record of 22.01s at Scotstoun Stadium today, Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Running in Lane 6, Hodge dominated the field with hardly any effort, crossing the finishing line with plenty daylight between her and second-place finisher Ashanti Moore of Jamaica, who registered a time of 22.49 seconds.

Veronica Shanti Pereira of Singapore was third in 22.81, a Season's Best run that gave her a spot in the final as one of the fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

Hodge is the first Virgin Islands' athlete to reach a 200m final at the Commonwealth Games.

The first Semi-Final was a battle between Torie Lewis of Australia and Alana Reid of Jamaica. Both athletes were given a finishing time of 22.64 seconds. Third was Success Eduan of England in a time of 22.65 seconds. Eduan qualified as one of the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

Beyonce bows out

Beyonce A. Defreitas of the Virgin Islands finished 5th in a non-advancing time of 23.31s.

The third Semi-final was won by Shaniqua Bascombe of Trinidad & Tobago in a Personal Best time of 22.31 seconds. Second was Lavanya Williams of Jamaica in 22.71s.

Croal & Belle miss out 

Meanwhile, the Men's 200m Semi-finals saw Jaleel N. Croal and Wanye Belle in action. Croal posted a phenomenal time of 20.42s - just .01 shy of his SB (20.41s), but missed out on advancing to the finals. Croal had an overall position of 11/23.

Winning his heat of Round 1 of the 200m qualifiers in a time of 20.53s, Jaleel made history as the only male to have advanced to a Commonwealth Games semifinals as a heats winner.

Belle wrapped up his first Commonwealth Games appearance with a non-advancing time of 21.13s in the 200m Semi-finals.
