ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Current active COVID-19 cases in the Virgin Islands (VI) as of July 16, 2021, have dropped to 1,596 from the previous 1,602 however, there are now 13 total reported deaths, up from the 8 reported on July 15, 2021, according to the latest information.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) made the announcement during a COVID-19 update last evening, July 16, 2021, that the pandemic has claimed 13 lives in the VI thus far, with 12 in 2021 and 1 in 2020.

These stats were further broken down by the Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronald E. Georges during the COVID-19 update broadcasted live on the Facebook page of the Government of the VI.

According to Dr Georges, the drop in total cases came as a result of the number of new positive cases dropping off, as well as the active caseload leveling off in the territory.

First dip in active cases since outbreak

“Today was the first day where we saw a dip in active cases and those of you would have been following the number would have seen that we went from 1,602 active cases to 1,596 active cases,” he said during the update.

The new lower active caseload came as a result of 35 recoveries and 34 new cases with a few 'unfortunate deaths' he said.

Dr Georges also indicated that the large majority of the cases remain asymptomatic where the persons infected are under quarantine or in isolation, with more projected fall in new cases predicted for the next coming weeks.

1 out of 27 hospitalised is vaccinated

Meanwhile, of the 27 persons currently hospitalised with the virus in the territory, only one out of the group is vaccinated.

To date, the territory has detected 2024 total COVID-19 cases with 420 recoveries and 13 deaths. In addition, some 24,647 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered with 14,208 receiving the first dose with 10,439 receiving both doses.

Why is the Health Ministry so confusing with these released stats? on the Government's Facebook page, they still posted 12 deaths even after the premier said 13.

All the deaths were unvaccinated. All the people in the hospital are unvaccinated.

    Does that tell you something?

Because they were not hospitalized FOR covid, they were hospitalized for another medical condition, just like the one in obstetrics or psych, and happened to test positive on the screening. When their other medical condition is resolved, they will be discharged.

I have had it, it will knock your socks off if you are in that category. You don't need a test result to know you have it to the point of danger and the country is already infected to the max.
Stay indoors and call an ambulance when you start coughing uncontrollably. If that doesn't happen... your good.

Active COVID cases recorded are going down because they are not testing so many people. If you are a contact of a positive case, but are vaccinated and show no symptoms, the rule is now that you don't need to be tested. Staying home is also helping, but this little drop in numbers is no victory. GET VACCINATED for the sake of the whole community.

If you stop testing you don’t find the cases. It is vey likely that there are actually more unrecorded cases in the territory than ever.

The correct figures for vaccinations are that 14,208 have had at least one vaccination of whom 10,439 have had both jabs.

Let’s hope those figures increase today.

    Get safe . Get vaccinated.

It is indeed sad to hear so many people dying from this COVID-19 disease. This amount of deaths could have been avoided if the people had taken the advice of the Acting Chief Medical officer. I applaud the effort of Dr. Georges. He did an excellent job. All that is needed is for positive response from the people. As in the days of Noah in the bible when he was telling the people to prepare for the flood and they were defiant, so too we find people with all sorts of excuses not to take the vaccine. Now we are seeing people dying like never seen before. What other evidence do we need to take the vaccine. I have taken the vaccines and thanks be to God I am feeling good without any side effects.

I want to appeal to every unvaccinated persons to consult with their doctors before making a decision to take the vaccine or not. Please don't make a decision without consultation of the side effects. However, before you take the vaccine, you should ensure that you don't neglect your nutrition. The virus strives well in persons who have underlying conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. These conditions result from your nutrition or hereditary traits.

Two of yesterday’s victims were 31 and 36. That is shocking. According to the hospital all the victims were obese or morbidly obese. If you are overweight it is as dangerous as being very old as far as Covid is concerned.

If you are overweight get vaccinated now.

The numbers they are showing at the current rate, 36 people will die in the next 4 weeks if we don't catch another case.
Bet your life that we are about to catch another body though.

u/o 36 1/2 but my advice is to take the over. bet24/7 is running a book.

No one is listening... Thursday I knew a bunch of people wanting to get vaxxed. Now none will because they believe the vaccinations are out of date.
I am done... people are about to lose their jobs and then their lives. I don't have the right nor will I impose a mandatory vaccination protocol... but the people I work for have every right to not want possibly toxic people working on their property in the most toxic country on the planet right now. That is their right, it works both ways.
Everyone has rights... but not everyone has a job come Monday. It's a personal choice... Just ask Bishop Cline SMFH.

So doing the math that means 36 more unvaccinated people are going to die if we don't get another case??? Average family = 6 or 60 x 36 = a lot of sad family members.
Time to extend the fasting and praying!
ps. Can you short a country? Asking for a friend.

From the Stats the release from the Government shows that the case count has dropped only as the number of deaths not recoverys. This is miss leading. www.Worldometer.com is showing closed cases 2% fatality. But from the outset critical cases were at 5% but this is now .7% critical. This is the result to the vaccination. It important to understand the stastics when releasing information good or bad.

Of course it dropped. You all stop testing to keep the numbers down. Some of the active cases dying rapidly. Some ain’t going to get tested even though they know they have it, home sick and suffering. Instead of continuing to push testing to control the spread and contact tracing. You pushing vaccine, which is still a personal choice. Vaccinated CAN still get and spread this virus. We need to continue more testing in conjunction with your vaccine push. One goes with the other.
