ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - For the fourth consecutive year, Chef Davide Pugliese, owner of culinary retreat, Wali Nikiti on Scrub Island, took his culinary talents to the 15th annual Meals from the Masters Celebrity Chefs Brunch, Wilmington, Delaware.

Chef Davide, a citizen of the British Virgin Islands, joined more than 30 chefs from around the U.S. and England to create specialty tastings for 1000 guests to help raise money for Meals on Wheels, Delaware. The fund raising event was hosted Sunday, April 22 in the atrium of the former Bank of America building in downtown Wilmington.

Chef Davide brought a taste of the sunny Virgin Islands to a wet and cold day in Wilmington. His dish included a traditional Caribbean johnny cake that complemented a wasabi-cured salmon topped with a drop of yogurt wasabi foam. The fusion dish drew many complements from the guests. “As usual, your dish is one of the best here,” said a regular patron of the event. “I really like the clean and simple flavours.”

Executive Director for Meals on Wheels Delaware, Mari Considine, said, “Each year it gets better and better. The chefs are aware that this a real foodie crowd and want to bring something different to the table.” She continued, “We couldn’t be more honored that the chefs travel from all over the world to raise awareness for Delaware’s homebound seniors. It’s truly amazing.”

Chef Davide has hosted a dinner at James Beard House and has brought his particular brand of Caribbean flavour to the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival, FL and culinary shows in Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands. He has represented the Virgin Islands as a chef and team manager for the nation’s culinary team and brought home bronze and silver medals from the “Taste of the Caribbean” competitions. Most recently, Chef Davide completed the set up of the kitchen and food and beverage operation at the newly opened Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, Virgin Gorda.

Other attending chefs ranged from James Beard Award nominees, semi-finalists, and finalists to popular “cheftestants” on Iron Chef and other television favourites. Participating chefs included Iron Chef, Kurt Boucher of Norah Belle’s in Denver, CO, James Beard Award winner, Craig Deihl of Cypress in Charleston, SC, and three-times James Beard nominee, Cathy Whims of Nostrana and Oven & Shaker in Portland, OR.

The Celebrity Chefs Brunch was the grand finale of a weekend of Meals from the Masters. Other culinary activities included an Evening With The Masters featuring local chefs and the Cellar Masters’ Wine Auction. Last year, Meals on Wheels, Delaware provided 600,000 meals to homebound seniors.
