ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Touting it as an opportunity for one buyer to join an elite club of private island owners that includes Richard C. N. Branson and Larry Page, Scrub Island Development Group has announced that it is selling Big Scrub Island, located off the coast of the Virgin Islands main island of Tortola.

“Scrub Island Development Group – owner of Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina, a private-island resort in the British Virgin Islands – will allow one buyer to join an elite club including Larry Page and Richard Branson with the purchase of the majestic 170-acre Big Scrub Island,” a press release from Scrub Island Development Group stated today, Monday December 14, 2015.

There are several private islands in the Virgin Islands, most notably Necker and Mosquito Islands owned by Mr Branson, Norman Island owned by Dr Henry Jarecki, Peter Island owned by the Van Andel family and Eustatia Island owned by CEO of Google Larry Page.

Big Scrub Island, of course, is already private owned and sits next to the more popular Little Scrub Island.

According to the press release, Big Scrub Island combines privacy, seclusion and natural beauty with convenient access and solid infrastructure.

“There are a number of obstacles potential buyers must face when developing their ultimate private-island sanctuary including transportation for themselves, construction workers and building materials; environmental and land-use restrictions; water and power; public versus private access; and safety, just to name a few. But, Big Scrub Island is construction-ready.”

It also stated that with all the difficult, complex infrastructure in place, and government surveys and approvals completed, the island will save potential buyers valuable time and significant resources. Some features of the island, the press release stated, include barge landing, road systems, a desalination and sewerage treatment plant, power from mainland with back-up generation and helipad access.

“We've taken the guesswork and hassle out of the equation,” said Joe Collier, Scrub Island Development Group principal. “With water, power and transportation readily available, and government red tape cleared, Big Scrub Island is the most seamless option for a new owner to “make their mark” and create a truly one-of-a-kind private-island paradise.”

Residents of Big Scrub Island, the release stated, will also have access to Little Scrub Island, home to the five-star Autograph Collection Hotels® property, and all its amenities. Conveniences, it said, include 52 beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites; a 55-slip deep water marina; award-winning Ixora Spa; three restaurants including the fine-dining Caravela, open-air poolside Tierra! Tierra! and Gourmet Market Café; fitness centre; dive shop; sailing school; and a scheduled, private ferry with hourly trips to Trellis Bay Dock on Beef Island, Tortola.

@ wize up; What does the current leadership has to do with the selling of Big Scrub, it is already owned by a non belonger and will be sold to another one. I will say that developers and or private individuals should not be allowed to purchase more property in the BVI than is needed for their development or private home.

seems like your not wise or wize cause the island is already privately owned. They are just selling it to any money man or woman that wants to buy.

Just like our our political process. Money and influence hidden behind walls of sales and reslaes and obtaining NBLHL with the sole intention of skirting the rules and flouting laws.

Does this government know how to pass laws that some of these smaller islands be deemed national parks? When all the the smaller islands are sold what protection is left for the territory. No wonder we are said to have so much drug trafficking and human trafficking. How do we keep out the above along with the importation of illegal firearms when there is no control of those islands?
    • Huh? (15/12/2015, 09:55) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply

You cannot deem anywhere a National Park after someone already spent millions purchasing it from a private owner. Government can turn Crown Land into National Parks or buy back lands from private persons and do the same. They cannot take people land and turn it into a National Park. Instead of selling our lands to buy sh.t we need to rethink the foolishness we have been doing for donkey years. It's amazing we are the ones who sold off all the land and now it's Government and expats that are getting the bad rap.

Well Branson's net worth is about 5 billion dollars and Larry Page's net worth is about 30 billion dollars. Branson has been here way longer than Page but Branson has done very very very little for the BVI....

@higher bidder, Richard is low on cash as he's done more than you think, Virgin Unite has 325 charities world wide. Yes agreed bit more attention can be done for the BVI, yet whenever he want to do something he's never supported. Larry have way more money simply because everyone needs google, including Richard. But if you look deeper you'll see he has done more than you think.

You are selling off your country. Corals being destroyed, no water in parts of the North Sound for up to SEVEN days at a time...............WHERE is all the money going? Does Orlando Smith have water at his house??? Which Govt Miisters are driving around in great big, new cars? Cruise Pier $85 Mil. - Clinic on VG - not enough money to finish it.......and on, and on, and on............no-one cares enough to do anything.
