"Do you rather a butt full of cancer, or a finger up your bottom for an annual check-up? I mean it boils down to that, we need to get past some of the cultural silliness and the stigmatism that is killing us," he said on Thursday, April 30, 2020, edition of his 'Honestly Speaking' radio show.

Prostate Cancer leading cancer in Men

"You gotta go to the doctor", Skelton-Cline urged to men following comments from President of the BVI Cancer Association, Mrs Gloria A. Fahie, that prostate cancer is the second leading cancer in the Virgin Islands, one that primarily effects mean.

According to Mrs Fahie, "Right now the most prevalent cancer for women is breast cancer and second to that is prostate cancer and that's in the Virgin Islands," she said.

"My drawback with these cancers, is I don't know what else we can do as a group or individuals because we try to educate the public as much as possible, sometimes when persons' diagnosis reaches to a doctor, it's like stage three or stage four and that is very disheartening."

She urged the public to consult with the doctor as often as possible when differences are detected in the body, "Please check it out, it may could or look insignificant but in the end, it would save your life," Ms Fahie underscored.

  • For all of y’all in favor of this mask law (02/05/2020, 11:13) Like (35) Dislike (0) Reply
    Be careful
Prolonged use of the mask produces hypoxia.

Breathing over and over exhaled air turns into carbon dioxide, which is why we feel dizzy.

This intoxicates the user and much more when he must move, carry out displacement actions.

It causes discomfort, loss of reflexes and conscious thought.

    It generates great fatigue.

In addition, oxygen deficiency causes glucose breakdown and endangered lactic acid rise.

Some people drive their car with the mask on, that is very dangerous, because, the stale air can make the driver lose consciousness.

It is recommended to use it only if you have someone in front or very close, and it is important to remember to lift it every 10 minutes to continue feeling healthy.

It is counterproductive for people who serve the public for 8 hours, as they are intoxicating themselves without knowing it.

    All lives are important.! "
That prevention does not lead you to another problem ... let's use the mask knowingly.

Dr. Kohli: There is no solid scientific evidence that wearing masks causes hypoxia or cognitive impairment. Doctors and healthcare workers who work in operating rooms wear them for hours a day and there has been no evidence that these people have had cognitive decline.

Doctors are in an A/C filled room majority of the time whereas the average human being is out in the sun most of the time, wearing a mask people will get sick and faint away, the sun in the Caribbean is that hot, and have you seen doctors where their mask on a casual day away from their offices ? No, wearing a a mask 24/7 is ludicrous

@@oyher side of the coin, quit spinning the directive. Wearing a mask is required if you are out and about in public. If you are at home, and in your back yard, a mask is not required, though it may be helpful. Further, a mask properly worn protect other people.

Typical of motor mouth SK. A finger rectal examination does not detect early treatable prostate cancer. By the time you can feel anything the cancer is very advanced. A PSA test is what is needed. That mostly detects cancers BEFORE they grow outside the prostate itself or reach the surface. PSA is a blood test. All men over 50 should have an annual PSA test. Prostate cancer is a big killer and black men are the most likely to get it.

@Rubber Duck, stop rassishness. No one is saying that employing the DRE technique and lump is detected in the prostate that automatically says that the prostate is cancerous. If a lump is found, a biopsy is done and the sample is analyzed by a specialist under a microscope to diagnose if the sample of prostate tissue was cancerous. A DRE is done jointly with a PSA test. No, a PSA test is not the only thing that is needed. What if the PSA produces a false negative or positive? By your comments, I’m assuming that you are not a trained and certified medical doctor (urologist).

Never have I agreed with this man but, man, I am in agreement with him on this point.
Men, if my husband can get over his squeamishness about this procedure, anyone can.
So do it for your life. Do it for your loved ones.
Just get it done! The life you save is your own.

My husband was with the nonsense about no doctor is sticking their finger up his rectum. When one of his friends died a year ago from prostate cancer, he hightailed it to the doctor to have his prostate checked out.

And no the standard Caribbean/American/European diet is not healthy and will cause cancer.

Claude Skelton-Cline is on pointing and providing good advice to VI men and men everywhere. The old saying that an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure is applicable here. A simple blood test and a digital rectal examine (finger wave as it is called) (DRE)by a urologist can avoid a lifetime of stress, distress, pain and regrets. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men. But the good news it is that it treatable if detected early. Regular check ups, ie, at least once a year can detect it early and treatment can start early if cancer is diagnosed. Many high profile men have had it diagnosed early, got treatment and are living productive lives, ie, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, former Secretary of State John Kerry, actor Robert Di Nero, entertainer and activist Harry Belafonte, baseball veteran Ken Griffey Sr, former California Governor Jerry Brown......etc. Men, especially men of African descent, has a fear, a thing, a cultural taboo about the DRE. It is a private exam between doctor and patient. It is health check and has absolutely nothing to do with one’s sexual preference. It does not say that you are gay or make you gay. The bottom line is that is a thousand times better than being told by a doctor why you waited so long. Make an appoint today and get check. If not for you, don’t it for your family. Live!

@E. Leonard, you are critical of E. Leonard for not sacrificing clarity on the altar of brevity but what is advice to men for getting regular prostate exams. By the way, a blood test alone is not sufficient to confirm whether has or don’t have prostate cancer. The blood test and DRE are used together as diagnostic tools. Men do yourself and family a big favour and get tested. Many men have died prematurely because they waited too long to get or did not get tested at all because of prudish fear. This may be too long for @E.Leonard to read but it is all good. Get tested!

@E.Leonard, trolls like you troll the net all day looking for someone to criticize for a longer than a 2 short sentence comment, an inadvertent misspelling, a grammar error, a wrong date........etc but never adds anything of value to the debate. Anything that may capture their attention for more than a millisecond they check out. If it is something negative tearing down, not building up, someone, that is straight up their alley. What a wasted pitiful life.

Nobody mentions the free screening that the red cross carried out once a yeay when around a thousand men came forward. Black men need to be 40+ and white men 50+, no racism here, just fact. The DRE takes about Five seconds, and could save your life. One correction, she said it affects mainly men. IT IS ONLY MEN. The first year we screened, two ladies showed up for the test!
    • Concerned (04/05/2020, 08:34) Like (0) Dislike (0) Reply
The new Red Cross Director has decided to discontinue the annual Prostate Cancer Screening and decides to have it every other year which makes no logical sense unless the risk of the men has been established and guidelines for screening decided. If it's a funding issue, that should be communicated to the public to see if that could be addressed. It is unfortunate. There were men whose results were negative the previous year and when the returned the following year, tests results were positive.
A lot of positive cases were captured early through those screening and received treatment and continued follow up.
PSA test alone cannot diagnose prostate cancer. It is possible, but not always as there could be other causes for high PSA levels. That is why Digital Rectal Exam(DRE) is recommended to detect any abnormality. Men know your risk, speak to your Doctor or other health professionals, reach out to your Cancer Society for information, not the nay sayers.
I have always according to the screening guidelines, encouraged family members and friends to get tested. Get the facts. Protect your Prostate.
