GREENLAND, Tortola, VI- The British Virgin Islands Cricket Association (BVICA) has reached a significant milestone in the development of youth cricket by successfully hosting a Safeguarding Course for coaches.

Nine participants completed the course, paving the way for the launch of a comprehensive Youth Cricket Coaching Programme in the territory.

The workshop, facilitated by Mr Morris Mark of the BVI Football Association, focused on key aspects of safeguarding, including child protection, ethical practices, and creating a safe and supportive environment for young athletes. The training equips the coaches with the tools to ensure the safety and well-being of young players, while fostering their growth both on and off the cricket field.

Essential step in laying foundation for youth cricket

According to a press release from the BVICA, Acting BVICA President Richard Francis commended the participants and highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating: “This training is an essential step in laying the foundation for youth cricket in the BVI. With safeguarding at the forefront, we can provide a secure and nurturing environment for our young players to excel.”

The Youth Cricket Coaching Programme, set to launch in the coming weeks, aims to introduce cricket to children across the islands and develop the next generation of cricketers.

With Mr Mark’s expertise and the commitment of trained coaches, the BVICA is well-positioned to make a meaningful impact on the sport’s development, BVICA stated.

This initiative, according to the press release, underscores the BVICA’s dedication to fostering a strong cricket culture in the VI while ensuring the highest standards of safety in youth sports.

Ask the surviving families of Ralph T. Oneal and A O Shirley how the depart felt about Cricket... then do some minor research (not too much, don't want you to see too much) about how Cricketers are paid (do comparison) ... don't study cricket for too long... and continue doing what you do every day.
