9 active cases of COVID-19 in VI

- 6 on Tortola, 2 on VG & 1 on a vessel

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- After enjoying a month of no recorded active cases of COVID-19 in the Virgin Islands, the territory now has some 9 active cases, according to the Government of the Virgin Islands today, March 28, 2021.

The update also comes as the Ministry of Health has notifed the public that a person who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Virgin Islands attended a funeral held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Sea Cows Bay Methodist Church.

Cases by location

According to the Territory’s Epidemiological Survey, 6 of the cases are on Tortola, 2 on Virgin Gorda and one on a vessel at a location that was not disclosed.

The Territory has now recorded a total 164 active cases, 154 recoveries and 1 death.

All cases and close contacts are said to be in quarantine.

Some 29, 979 samples from 28, 870 persons have been tested at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital Laboratory.

Isolation & testing

Meanwhile, all persons who attended the funeral in Sea Cows Bay on Saturday are being asked to isolate for 10 days and contact the Public Health Unit from Monday, March 29, 2021, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm to schedule a COVID-19 test.

There is no payment associated with testing.

        The answer is easy - everybody who refuses to have the vaccine has to stay at home - no leaving their house under any circumstances.
        People who have had the vaccine can be issued with a Vaccine Passport, and every shop, every restaurant and every other business should be required to check the passport before allowing a person in.

            Enlighten me.... how many people has the vaccine killed so far? The answer to that question is 0. NONE. NIL. No deaths have been linked to the vaccine. Some suspected links were investigated and then it was found that the vaccine was not the cause. If you have other information that is verifiable and from a reputable source please share.

        @ protoss working well. Our problem is we can't control the outer population. Everywhere large gathering and people are not listening. Almost everyday you can see so many different faces some even working how it that possible. We putting so much pressure on some people and others are getting away with much. Back to where we were on the issue of can't control our population. Who don't hear feels everyone wants to have fun and party but forget the protocols. Small spaces no 6 feet distancing all some of us see is money and that's a serious problem. Begging people to stay isolated for 10 days only some will adhere others don't care. Therefore the minister must make a conscious and hard decision to try to keep the public safe. The decision may not be popular but he must use wisdom in this critical and crucial moment we can end up with hundreds of cases on our hands which we can't handle. This is not about you and I only its everyone.

    So then, these 9 cases are all people entering the BVI? But what does TRAVEL SCREENING mean? Sounds like someone trying to leave the BVI and the document says there are 2 of those. It says Community Asymptomatic and Community Symptomatic? Why does this sound like Community Spread?

    Why are we suddenly being told about NINE postive Covid19 cases in the BVI, while all the time we thought we were Covid 19 FREE in the BVI? Why SUDDENLY? Why was a person with Positive Covid19 at a funeral? Who is monitoring quarantines?

      Exactly why people need to get vaccinated. All the vaccines are a 100% to keep you out of the hospital and prevent death. If you do get the virus it will be a mild case in comparison. You cannot open up the Country if you don't have the majority vaccinated to lower the risk of a massive outbreak which we all know the country cannot handle. Things are only going to get more difficult as the rest of the world move forward that does not include the BVI in their plans due to the narrow minded opinions about the Vaccine. I guess times are not hard enough and they need it hit a little closer to home with another family member death from Covid.

    I would like to add one thing. I attended a funeral last week at another church and look people. Come on folks, discern wisdom from God. When there are funerals, there is ZERO social distancing. I made the mistake to politely tell someone that they should only sit on benches designated and my head was almost chewed off and spat out. People were shoulder to shoulder and in every pew. All that went through my head was if someone in that church had COVID, a lot of persons would have been made to quarantine. Christians must also abide by the law. Police need to attend funerals to ensure that people follow the rule, because they really don't listen to ushers. Since I can't control the actions of others, I have decided to control my own actions and do not attend such gathering anymore unless it is a very close family member.

    Not sure about the covid vaccine becauo haven’t done research but usually a vaccine is made with the antibodies of the initial virus. The vaccine itself may not be descriptive to some people and causing them to have the virus. Are these ppl that have been previously vaccinated? The territory is so secure I can’t see where the infestation can occur other than that.

    Based on what I read they said one of the positive cases attended the funeral. They never said the other infections were reported from the funeral. The assumption therefore is that there will be more than 9. So let’s see if this leads to a big spike in cases. Should we panic? Not necessarily.

    Only last week Honourable Carvin Malone said the bvi was covid free and now this week we have 9 active cases, that the second time he did that say we are covid free and week after we got active cases, all of this action leading up for the port not to be reopen any time soon, one thing i know is it have a lot of people just sitting an waiting for the port to be reopened, cause everyone is getting kill by these high prices in the bvi, that port fees will cause a lot of problem in the bvi, supermarket will and already raised price on food goods, gas prices is going up, house rent is going up, but your pay check is not going up, i keep asking myself why is it premier Andrew Fahie not saying or trying to help situation with port fees, internet, high food prices, your pay checks , i know Andrew Fahie see and here the people crying and talking every day, from since there port fees came out has Andrew Fahie said one thing about it Mr.Premier you always quoting or saying something about god, let me quote one also.     There is no community spread here so the covid had to be brought to the funeral by someone who had come to into Tortola by air or sea. As the ferries closed it was either a plane or an illegal entry by boat. Did they get tested they when arrived? i heard some people still meeting people at the airport when arrive as security is lax plus my friend had to wait at the airport for 45 minutes on the seat outside for the 'free taxi to take him to his apartment and he had to share it with people from other countries so the system is not foolproof.
