$8k prize money well secured for boat show – Ms Meslyn M. Allan
“We are out there doing our thing. We have the cash prizes locked in place ready to make somebody a couple of thousand dollars richer.”
This is according to one of the Coordinators of the event Ms Meslyn M. Allan. Ms Allan sat with this news site to speak of their preparedness when she confirmed that challenges are at its minimum and they are all enthused about seeing the event come off the ground.
“Things are coming around really well. We have a lot of boaters out there at the last minute trying to put on their finishing touches racing against the clock literally to try to get ready for the actual day of the event,” said Ms Allan.
She said that one of the things that have been a great motivator to the team is the fact that they have been getting lots of positive feedback for boaters, supporters and others who wish them well.
Speaking about the participants registered so far she said, “The greater number is from the BVI and other countries include Puerto Rico and St Thomas [USVI].”
The Exquisite Boat Show is being held one day ahead of one of the most established boating events in the VI, Poker Run and according to Ms Allan this has posed no threat to their event rather they have been supporting each other.
“The Boat Show and Poker Run kinda complement each other. The Exquisite Boat show provides a platform for you to even showcase your boat before the event and Poker Run provides you the opportunity to come out and see and do the island hopping thing. So it’s a win/win and I think they work well together and they complement each other,” she said.
She added that the two events give boaters the opportunity to win prizes not just on one day but rather two days.
As the adrenalin rushes, Ms Allan said that they are doing their best to make it all happen in the best way possible much to the pleasure of all involved. “We are just trying to make sure that everything is in order. When it comes to the actual event anything that can happen will happen but you try to solve as many problems beforehand as much as possible and try to get all the little pieces in place and that’s what we are working on now.”
They have been keeping a close eye on the weather and from all indications the entire weekend promises to be one favourable for the staging of the memorial weekend activities here in the VI.
At the time of this interview there were only four VIP tickets remaining and they were at Inter Island Boat Services. Ordinary tickets were said to be going like hot cakes.
As it relates to transportation services she said that while Inter Island Boat Services will be transporting persons to Scrub Island from St. Thomas and St John USVI, Speedy’s will be transporting persons from Virgin Gorda leaving at 10:30am to Scrub Island and for persons on Tortola Speedy’s takes them free of cost on a shuttle service at 10:30 am and 11:30am to Scrub Island.
