ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Sixty-Nine (69) individuals are now registered as British Citizens after being previously Naturalised as British Overseas Territories Citizens.

The individuals recited the Oath of Allegiance to His Majesty the King, as well as the Pledge of Loyalty to the United Kingdom, during a ceremony held at the Government House on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

The new citizens also received congratulatory remarks from His Excellency the Governor, Mr Daniel Pruce and Registrar General, Mrs Tashi O’Flaherty-Maduro.

VI has 'previous links' with UK- Gov Pruce

Governor Pruce, according to a press release from Government Information Service (GIS) on May 22, 2025, said as an overseas Territory and part of the realm of His Majesty, the Virgin Islands has precious links with the United Kingdom.

The Governor said, “The success that both the Virgin Islands and United Kingdom enjoy in the global economy is founded upon many shared factors, including our common law legal systems and our respect for the rule of law. But our connections go much further than that throughout history, through our people and through our culture.”

Mrs. O’Flaherty-Maduro, in her remarks, reminded the group that becoming a British Citizen is not simply a legal process, but that it is a profound personal journey.

Mrs O’Flaherty-Maduro said, “It reflects your dedication to integrating into a society built on democracy and respect for all people. Today, you are not only receiving a certificate, you are being formally welcomed into a community rich in history, culture and diversity.”
