VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), has called for a grand celebration to mark the 60th Virgin Gorda Easter Festival in 2027.

During the opening ceremony of the recently concluded 59th Virgin Gorda Easter Festival on Saturday, April 4, 2026, Premier Wheatley said, “Next year we will mark a major milestone, the 60th anniversary of the VG Easter Festival, that moment calls for vision, planning and renewed commitment.”

He added that it is an opportunity not only to celebrate the past, but to elevate this festival even further.

“[By] strengthening its cultural content, expanding its impact and ensuring that it continues to be a defining feature of Virgin Gorda and the Virgin Islands. I see so much potential of this festival to go even beyond what it is today.”

Support for the festivals aids in preserving culture- Hon Hodge-Smith

Meanwhile, Junior Minister for Tourism and Culture, Hon Luce D Hodge-Smith (R4), said showing support for the annual Virgin Gorda Easter Festival helps preserve the Virgin Islands’ (VI) cultural traditions.

“By us taking part in all of these events, it helps to safeguard our cultural traditions and cultural heritage, because if you don’t participate, then it dies, it dies, and then we are no more.”

She encouraged people to continue to support each of the sister islands and the events held there.

“Just find some time, even if you can’t come for the entire event, find some time to show up…Next year, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Virgin Gorda Ester Festival. I am already looking forward to that great, great milestone.”

Why don't you put a decent festival together? Others are coming from their home country and doing Kite events, their tradition; meanwhile, in VG, you have people who don't even have an appreciation for Blacks starring in our parade.
