5th person dies from COVID-19 in VI

According to reports reaching our newsroom this morning, July 14, 2021, a COVID-19 positive individual passed away last night at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital. Photo: Internet Source/File
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands has registered its 5th COVID-19 related death.

According to reports reaching our newsroom this morning, July 14, 2021, the individual passed away last night at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital.

The deceased is said to be from Virgin Gorda and worked in the telecommunications sector.

Our newsroom has chosen to withhold the name of the person until we are satisfied family members have been notified.

Virgin Islands News Online extends sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.

Only yesterday, July 13, 2021, a female succumbed to COVID-19 at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital.

        This is not even the place for it. Seriously we are grieving. Can you just allow us to? Covid is bad enough but everywhere you turn is vaccine no vaccine oh gosh give us some time to cry without feeling like our loved ones were suicidal or something. We don't even know how or when our loved ones got it and we don't know why they did not take the vaccine or why they did. all we know they are gone, gone!!! We do all we can to prevent and sometimes it just unfortunate. Our community and health providers need to start publishing things/medication to treat symptoms if or when we get covid so we can have some help in that area as well. let us grieve in peace.

      There is no reasoning with certain people. First it was COVID is a hoax and not real, then people start falling ill so blame that on the vaccines, now unvaccinated people are dying and its blame the equipment or the treatment. Maybe just maybe COVID is real and poses a genuine threat to certain people.

      There is no shame in people that initially doubted it admitting that they may have been wrong and accepting that COVID represents a very real and dangerous threat. The basis of science is to take the evidence in front of you and draw a conclusion, as time passes, more evidence might emerge and conclusions may change. Too many people here have drawn their initial conclusion and it seems no evidence to the contrary can change that.

        Lol I predicted the excuses will keep evolving months ago. They went from there is no virus it’s something with the 5g towers to Bill Gates possibly involved to depopulate the earth, say the virus is the flu now the deaths gone up and they can’t belittle the virus they will blame the poor doctors.       These people are dying FROM complications due to covid. Yes they may have other underlying conditions, asthma, diabetes ect.. but the reason they are dying is because they caught COVID.

    Please lock this place down at least a two weeks, im not one for locking down but this is getting dangerous, reason is as the public health officers have said, people know they have this and are readily going around like its nothing, some people believe covid isn't real, and these same people will come smile and talk to you like nothing, you get sick and people are dying!       Putting a lockdown in place will simply delay the inevitable. Just like the flu, everyone is going to get this virus at some point. People with underlying conditions who refuse to vaccinate will die or be seriously ill sooner or later.

    I dont think it's right for any medical practitioner to state a person died from covid as soon as they die and they have not did and throughout autopsy to determine other medical issues he could of have prior to covid. Now if you had a heart issue before then u get covid which trigger your heart to malfunction t, then is your heart fail that kills u with addition to the recent covid. They need to stop this and give a full report on any matter if that's the case

      Many of the deaths that have occurred, and which which continue to occur, will be people with underlying conditions, some of which may be undiagnosed. If COVID is the trigger factor for that condition killing you, then the sensible option has to be vaccinate to protect against COVID. If you don't catch COVID or you have primed your immune system to fight it (by vaccination) you minimise the chance of the underlying condition causing a problem.

      So if a person comes into the ER with diabetic symptoms, you confirmed that the said symptoms are as stated and that person dies, what would you say they died from? An autopsy is normally conducted on a person who died without any obvious reason, where the cause of death is suspicious or where the law requires on to be done to determine the cause of death ie: an accident, or murder.

    The covid-19 virus that is now causing lost of lives among us is not a myth. What is mythical is the mythical mindset of many of citizens, that living among us.
    This is one of many true old saying: "The ship that is not steered by its rudder ends up on the rocks." And worst on the ocean floor. Only ignorant people leave life to chance. Our decisions should be base on proven evidence, not unproven speculation, and random belief.
    Let us chose life, rather death, love rather than hate, proven knowledge, error-free wisdom, unity with honest true purpose rather than selfishness, faihfulness rather than faithlessness, truth rather than lies.

    A person can die of Covid, or they can die because Covid makes them much more susceptible to a previous condition. Either way, Covid is the nail in the coffin. Understand that. A person might be old and diabetic, for example, but live for many years, if it were not that Covid intervened and took them early. Covid is the reason for death, not their prior illness.

      Based on that premise why is it did they took the vaccinated elderly person who died off the list of covid related illnesses. The Minister announced that it was covid related and then the CMO said no it is under investigation as she had a intercurrent illness.

    Spoke to him a little more than a week ago when he called to check up on me as he would do most weeks. I knew something was wrong when he did not answer calls or messsges. Never imagined this.
    Prayers going up for his wife, daughter, grandbaby and family that they may find comfort in knowing he is in a better place

I don’t know what else needs to happen for the rest of you to wake up. There is no glass dome over the BVI protecting it from the world’s afflictions. If you can, vaccinate.       Nobody is saying the unvaccinated should die. AT ALL. The unfortunate reality coming from the numbers here is that the unvaccinated ARE dying. A lockdown at this point would not work because of how far the virus has already spread in the community. All that we can do is follow the measures put in place to try and protect us. Everyone has a choice - if you are unvaccinated or vaccinated and concerned LOCKDOWN yourself. At this point EVERYONE needs to do what they can to protect themselves and those around them. IMO, with over 1000 people infected (and probably many more untested), a lockdown now and rush to the stores to stock up would cause superspreading and make the situation much worse.

    Condolences to the family & friends.

    What I don’t understand is why there is no treatment up to this date while the preventative vaccine is all they whip up & sell besides a ventilator which doesn’t seem effective at all as a treatment. No information on breakthrough treatments, effective herbs or mitigation besides a vaccine.

    At the start of it there was information coming out left and right concerning mitigating factors and experimental treatments now silence except for information about the vaccines.

    It’s a failure of medical logic because even among the vaccinated persons have required hospitalization.
