5 to vie for Mr & Miss HLSCC in June

PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI- The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) will host the 2025 edition of the Mr & Miss HLSCC Pageant next month.

A press release from HLSCC yesterday, May 20, 2025, said the pageant’s theme this year is ‘The Dream of a Visionary’, and forms part of the college’s 35th anniversary celebrations. 

5 to vie for the title

Five students will compete for the title on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 4:00 PM in the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, HLSCC Campus in Paraquita Bay. The pageant promises a “vibrant and competitive slate of contestants who are eager to represent their College community”. 

Vying for the Mr HLSCC title are Dakarai L. Wheatley-Adams and Shimie Peters, while competing for the Miss HLSCC title are K’Meeya A. Chung, Shakira P. Hendrickson, and Jmya M.I. Mark.

The students will compete in the Personal Interview segment, ahead of the official pageant, on Friday, May 30, 2025.

On the night of the pageant, contestants will appear in Introduction and Business Wear, Ambassadorial Presentation, Talent, Evening Wear and Question and Answer

“These students will demonstrate their intellect, talent, poise, and passion in the various segments,” the release added.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to vote for Mr & Miss Popularity by visiting the HLSCC’s Facebook page. Votes are cast by liking or loving the official contestant images from today, Wednesday, May 21, 2025, until Saturday, May 31, 2025, at noon.

More than a competition

According to the HLSCC, the pageant is not just a competition but a rite of passage and a defining moment for students seeking to make a lasting impact on campus life. 

Following a brief hiatus, the Mr & Miss HLSCC Pageant has continued to grow in scope and prestige since its return. It offers winners the opportunity to serve the college as official ambassadors.

As HLSCC ambassadors, they will represent the institution at prominent cultural, educational, and community events, both locally and abroad.

The winners of the 2025 Mr & Miss HLSCC Pageant will be awarded a scholarship to support their continued academic journey at the HLSCC. 

They will also receive a custom-designed crown, sash, and sceptre, and benefit from professional training in leadership development, public speaking, and media engagement.

“The Mr & Miss HLSCC Pageant is more than a show. What was once seen as a fundraiser event is now a celebration of identity, purpose, and student excellence…As the College reflects on our 35 years of service, this pageant reminds us of the power of our students’ voices and the importance of cultivating pride and connection to the College,” Student Life Director, Ms Debra Hodge said. 

Tickets are now available for purchase at the HLSCC Campus Store, the Student Life Department, through any of the contestants, and at J&C Trading Ltd. General admission is $35. Virgin Islands students with a valid ID can purchase tickets for $20.

The reigning Mr HLSCC is Mr Malacoy Levons, and the reigning Miss HLSCC is Miss Jhadazia Lennard.
