It is not often that Premier Fahie , Claude Skelton Clyde and myself agree, so it must be obvious

Everyone who has sadly died of Covid including 4 today , 2 of whom were 31 and 36 years old, was unvaccinated

Everyone of the 25 currently in the hospital is unvaccinated.

What we all 3 agree is that if you want to live through this -

        GET VACCINATED NOW

Nobody cares what happens in the US. It’s irrelevant. We need the vaccine because it’s obviously a defence against Covid. Not because some foreign country says so.
      • Why the US matters (18/07/2021, 12:36) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
The reasons why we benchmark the US is because it is far more technologically advanced than the BVI and with such a vast population and highly regulated environment, their statistics are reliable. Yes there are scandals in the US - but at least we hear about them publicity in the news. In contrast, we are not referencing China.

After you are fully vaccinated for COVID-19, you can resume many activities that you did before the pandemic. You can resume activities without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.
People are not considered fully vaccinated until 2 weeks after their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, or 2 weeks after a single-dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. Treat persons as equals vaccinated or not because this narrative of vaccine incentives is what probably caused the outbreak considering the timing of the outbreak.

Most of the vaccine have not been developed with traditional technology. There’s different types of vaccines mRNA being one that is relatively new and was fast tracked for humans due to Covid.

      https://www.hhs.gov/immunization/basics/types/index.html

If the facts of the vaccine was transparent from the start persons wouldn’t have doubts, conspiracies & EU regulators wouldn’t have had cause to halt certain brands or consider one vaccine brand to safer than others.

Persons want to make an educated choice and the overly pro-vaccine propaganda hurts the case for vaccination when people get online and see that in fact there are deaths & risks associated with brands of the vaccine some being more prone to causing serious side effects in comparison to other brands.

2 cases and one death the territory was locked down for weeks. The Governor, Premier and Health Minister were giving daily public press conferences. Almost two thousand cases later and eight more deaths we are still open for usual business with the exception of a night curfew. Some of our close friends are now gloating over our quick demise mainly due to our early success in curbing this the virus. What is the Government doing? While the good Doctor George is giving now and again impressive and informative updates, we are not hearing from the Government about what they are doing or intend to do to deal with this frightening situation. I know it may not be in the best interest of the Territory economically but for all of us do something!

      Educate yourself
When we were on lockdown with two cases and one death, we had no options. Everything was new and puzzling. A year later we are more informed and offered an option to take the vaccine. If you chose not to utilize the options afforded to you, so be it, but the country should not shut down because of your irresponsible choices. The country is depending on you and I so that we all can again enjoy the normal life we grew accustomed to. Stop spewing ignorance and educate yourself. Had we still not know how to manage COVID we would still be locked down; however, we know how to manage it; all we need are folks to stop being ignorant and adhere to established protocols and do their part to stop the spread.

The Government have made vaccines available for the population at no cost. The Government warned that people may get sick when we open if they have not been vaccinated. The Government have encouraged us all to get vaccinated. People have chosen not to get vaccinated and now the consequences of that are being felt. The best and quickest way out of this is to get enough of the population vaccinated to ease the strain on health services. The Government has taken the population to the water and it is up to the population to now drink it

In western countries like UK USA etc deaths have been about 1.5 per 1000 population. So in BVI that would be 45-50 persons. BVI has a more susceptible population so it may be more.

In fully vaccinated countries like the above death rates have fallen rapidly. Germany with a population of 85 million had only 6 deaths yesterday. USA with 350 million people has only 26 deaths yesterday.

Don’t become one of the 50. Get vaccinated.

USVI health department has issued over 56, 000 vaccines. They have 120 active cases of Covid.
BVI health services has issued just over 24, 000 vaccines. We have almost 2000 active cases.
And we are still talking crop and don't want to take the vaccine.
    • Dino (16/07/2021, 22:11) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
      @This is why
56000 vaccines issued for a population of about 100000 in USVI vs 24000 vaccines at a population of about 30000 in BVI. Now compare: BVI has actually a better vaccination rate per capita than USVI. Still they have much less active cases now, compared to us. Why? Obviously, from the data that you just mentioned, not because of less unvaccinated ppl, percentagewise. Blaming exclusively the unvaccinated ppl for the actual situation in BVI is scientifically wrong.
While these past 15 months USVI just like St Martin had mitigation and control measures against the Covid 19, those measures were not as tough as the ones taken in BVI and thus the virus spread among the ppl more than it did in Tortola. Still , the situation was under control.
Now BVI is practically experiencing a first wave. What was before was insignificant in terms of numbers on every level. Might have looked good but it did not create any significant natural immunity among the ppl. Now the virus is encountering a virtually "virgin" terrain. A very similar situation in St Kitts following policies similar to Tortola's. All these are facts, but in an atmosphere of fear , many ppl succumb to tribalism and partisan narratives that are rooted not in science and common sense but ideology and wickedness of the few who just want to control the rest.

Sydney’s COVID outbreak has just prompted official advice on the AstraZeneca vaccine to change to encourage more people to get fully vaccinated sooner.

Now, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends people in outbreak areas have their booster shot at 4-8 weeks after their initial dose rather than wait for 12 weeks. ATAGI now also advises people in outbreak areas under 60 to “re-assess the benefits to them and their contacts” from getting an AstraZeneca vaccine now if the Pfizer vaccine is not available.

Infected individuals need to be isolated. BVI is way too complacent. As someone test positive if they have nowhere to isolate they should be given an option to isolate at a government isolation area. Shut down, contract out remote hotels and villas and designate them isolation centers. These ppl are testing positive and allowed to go back amongst family and friends. The government finds money when they need to but now they really need it. Contract out your friends you do shady business with anyway let them serve a purpose.

The BVI is in trouble. It is being ravaged either by Coronavirus(Covid-19) or one or more highly contagious and transmittable mutations, ie Delta Variant…….etc. Virgin Islanders at home and Virgin Island diaspora abroad are on edge. We wait anxiously and frighteningly every day for updates, hoping that infections are heading south and no deaths. But disappointed we are.

Covid-19 is real and the only way to arrest it is through herd immunity. There are two ways of attaining herd immunity. First, a significant percentage of the population getting infected and in turn developing an immunity to the deadly disease. However, in the process of getting infected, too many die. The quicker and better means to herd immunity is through a proven, safe protective vaccine.

Moreover, undoubtedly, the BVI is taking actions to prevent, control and mitigate the virus. Nonetheless, it needs to more to do. The VI is in crisis and no need for political calculations. It is time to grab the virus by any means necessary and arrest it—-get to herd immunity soonest—-vaccinate. Lockdown and close the border—damn the political fallout. Locking and closing border provides the unobstructed opportunity to get both arms around the problem and craft solutions. Just today a fellow Virgin Islander on site asked how many asymptotic people are walking around and unknowingly spreading the disease. The VI needs to find out, should it? Yes, locking comes with a cost but there are costs to all actions in life. What is the priority? Life or economic livelihood?
