TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- The BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) is celebrating a major milestone in staff development, as four team members have successfully completed aviation training programmes.

Duty Managers Ms Paulette Cruz and Ms Rikejah Fahie have earned the prestigious designation of International Airport Professional (IAP) after completing the Airport Management Professional Accreditation Programme (AMPAP). This is a rigorous, globally recognised program jointly delivered by Airports Council International (ACI) and the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

Meanwhile, Mr Tristan Maduro and Mr Matai Frett have successfully completed the Aerodrome and Approach Control Diploma from the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Training Centre. This achievement paves the way for both gentlemen to pursue their local licenses and begin serving as certified Air Traffic Controllers in the Virgin Islands.

'Vision of excellence'

Managing Director Mr Kurt A. G. Menal, in a press release, said the Authority remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence, safety, and continuous learning. He added that this accomplishment not only distinguishes them as leaders in airport management but also strengthens the Authority’s operational capabilities in line with international best practices.

Mr Menal said, “These achievements are more than individual milestones, they reflect our vision of excellence across the entire organisation”.

“We are unwavering in our commitment to investing in our people; training and capacity building are not afterthoughts, they are pillars of our operational strategy and the success of Ms Cruz, Ms Fahie, Messrs Maduro and Mr Frett is a proud testament to what’s possible when we prioritise professional growth.”

'Proud of our colleagues'- Karid Penn

Acting Director of People and Culture Ms Karid Penn said the Authority’s emphasis on continuous improvement and talent development has been championed across departments, fostering a culture where ambition and excellence are supported and celebrated.

Ms Penn said, “We are immensely proud of our colleagues and what they have accomplished. At BVIAA, our people are our most valuable asset. By providing access to world-class training and development opportunities, we empower our team members to reach their full potential and elevate the standard of the service we provide to the travelling public.”

With B VIslanders holding such qualifications, the airport has no need to look else where for competent leadership. Cruz for sure has over 20 years up there. Congratulations to all.
