38 ESHS students complete On-The-Job Training within Public Service

The students who were placed throughout more than 20 departments and offices, including The Cabinet Office, Ministry of Finance, Office of the Deputy Governor, the Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs and His Majesty’s Customs, received Certificates of Participation in the training programme.
'Unique mandate'
According to a press release from the Government Information Service (GIS), Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Sharleen S. DaBreo-Lettsome said, “The Public Service has a unique mandate to work on a daily basis to construct and maintain systems that allow our Territory to function and experience development. This means that it is extremely vital we create spaces, wherever possible, to allow the next generation the opportunity to positively contribute to this progress.”
Mrs DaBreo-Lettsome added, “This programme has allowed our students to witness and experience first-hand, what it takes to be a public officer, as well as an opportunity to begin to plan for a career in the Public Service themselves.”
8-year hiatus
Deputy Director of Human Resources (Ag), Ms Cara Christopher highlighted the importance of the programme, citing that it allows students who are preparing to graduate to have a full, paid, working experience within the Public Service, the Territory’s largest employer.
Ms Christopher said, “After an eight (8) year hiatus, the Department of Human Resources is proud to relaunch this critical programme for our students. While they prepare to graduate from High School, it is important that as prospective job seekers, they understand the opportunities that are available to them, especially within the Public Service.”
Deputy Governor, Mr David D. Archer, Jr., in his April Monthly Message, featured students, Ms Shaayanna Barry and Mr Javeek Merry, who both shared their positive experiences in the Public Service.
Mr Archer also said that the Public Service must continue to provide opportunities for young individuals to grow and excel within the organisation, noting the importance of allowing these individuals to contribute ideas and vision to the future of the Territory.
