37% reduction in sexual offences this year- Acting CoP Vanterpool

This information was disclosed by Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool during the "Talking Points" programme aired live on ZBVI 780 AM and Facebook on Monday, July 14, 2025.
"We have seen a reduction in domestic violence cases. The good news is we have achieved several successes, with sexual offences dropping by 37 percent. This statistic is accurate; one of the factors we monitor is the number of individuals who come forward to report these crimes. Over the last couple of years, many people have been reporting these types of crimes, allowing us to investigate and apprehend the perpetrators," Vanterpool stated.
She explained that this reduction can be attributed to the dedication of officers in the Family and Juvenile Department, who go above and beyond to ensure that case files are prepared promptly for submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and subsequently to court for prosecution.
Men reporting domestic violence offences
Vanterpool noted, "All officers in the Family and Juvenile Unit are trained to handle sexual offences and domestic violence cases. In the last two years, it hasn’t been surprising to see men coming forward to file complaints, although some only wanted to report to a certain extent."
However, the acting commissioner raised concerns about a rise in property crimes and motor vehicle thefts.
"We are fully aware that younger individuals are responsible for these vehicle thefts. We have conducted public awareness campaigns on social media, urging people not to leave their keys in their vehicles," she added.
She also mentioned that some car rental companies have agreements allowing customers to leave vehicles at docks or airports. She further stated that "we have young people riding scooters at all times, and when they see the cars, they just take them without hesitation. They are committing crimes and damaging the vehicles as well."

police force i like how yall keep pressure on the drug trade and serious crimes but please put some pressure on the politicians to get a sex offender list
people of the bvi you also need to do your part. if you think Mika Barry and COI open your eyes wide wait until you see the kind of names that would be on that list! your mouth would drop! Those people are have positions all over and even areas where they have access to youths! A lot of families & friends going be on it. politicians closed them eye!
wanna know the story as to why the age of consent is 16 and not 17 or18? politicians made a quick legislation to save one of their people backside! if they did that imagine wa the list looks like?
imagine known offenders leaving the bvi to travel places and there's no list or warning to go out to the places they travel to. Its a volcano waiting to erupt if something happens overseas with our local offenders! We will be put on a spot light and you wouldn't like that feeling! They already watch us when we travel thanks to our known "drug trade business"
imagine if there are offenders working at places like daycares, schools, kindergartens, youth affairs, coaches, public transport, camps, festivals, summer schools, therapist, nurses, doctors, councilors etc etc and you got your youth t at these areas in these people care.......
