ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands will mark a significant milestone this Thursday, May 7, 2026, with the 30th Anniversary of the BVI Interdenominational Day of Prayer under the theme: “Glorify God Among the Nations: Seeking Him in All Generations”.

This annual observance, established by the late Linton Wheatley, seeks to unite churches and communities across denominations in a spirit of prayer, thanksgiving, and national reflection.

According to the Government of the Virgin Islands, the 30th anniversary celebrations will feature a series of spiritually uplifting events, broadcasts, and community gatherings on the Sister Islands designed to inspire and foster Christian unity and spread the gospel throughout the Territory.

Special Broadcast

A highlight of this year’s observance will be a special one-hour programme airing across multiple media platforms on Thursday, May 7.

The programme will include messages from Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), the Leader of the Opposition Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), Head of the Coordinating Committee Pastor Winston Salmon and other prominent church leaders.

The broadcast schedule is as follows: ZBVI: 5:30 a.m. – 6:30 a.m., ZVCR (Fuze): 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m., ZKING: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., ZROD FM 103.7: 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Throughout the day on Thursday, radio stations ZBVI and ZCCR will also host live prayer sessions featuring prayer warriors from various churches. Listeners will have the opportunity to call in and participate.

Virtual Thanksgiving & Praise Service

As a prelude to the Day of Prayer, a Virtual Thanksgiving and Praise Service will be held on Tuesday, May 5, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Church of God (Holiness), Hodge’s Creek, Tortola. The service will feature Psalmist Donna D. Clyne and Bishop Naaman Chalwell, District Overseer of the Church of God of Prophecy (VI District).

The event will be streamed live via the VI Interdenominational Day of Prayer Facebook page.

Community prayer gatherings will take place across the Sister Islands on Thursday, fostering unity and spiritual engagement.

Virgin Gorda: Morning Prayer at Emmanuel Baptist Church – 5:30 a.m. Prayer March around Valley – 5:30 p.m. Church Service at the Church of God (Holiness), Valley – 7:00 p.m. Coordinator: Pastor Greggory Smith.

Anegada: The Settlement, Anegada (5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.) Coordinator: Pastor Dr Erma Vanterpool.

Jost van Dyke: Albert H. Chinnery Administration Building, Jost van Dyke (5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.) Coordinator: Pastor Mark Morris.

Leadership

The 30th Anniversary activities are being coordinated under the leadership of Pastor Winston Salmon, Head of the Coordinating Committee.

This landmark celebration invites all residents and the wider VI community to participate in prayer, reflection, and thanksgiving, reaffirming a shared commitment to the Christian faith and unity across denominations.

The public is invited to join churches across the Territory throughout the day as they come together in prayer for the Government and people of the Virgin Islands.
