30th homicide of 2023 recorded in USVI
FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI- A grim milestone has been reached in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) for yet another year, as the [US] VI Police Department on Sunday, September 24, 2023, confirmed the territory's 30th homicide for 2023.
According to the VIPD, on Saturday at around 11:28 pm, a concerned citizen reached out to the 911 emergency hotline, reporting gunshots fired near the Concrete Bar, located on Turpentine Run Road.
Following the distress call, officers from the Mariel C. Newton Command were dispatched to the mentioned location. Upon their arrival, they discovered an unresponsive male in the roadway, showing evident signs of gunshot injuries.
Emergency Medical Technicians were promptly on the scene and, by 11:41 pm, confirmed the absence of any vital signs from the male victim.
Victim identified
The victim was identified by next of kin as 39-year-old Archie Perry Jr.
The latest homicide marked the 30th in the territory for 2023, with St Thomas accounting for 16 while St Croix has seen 14 homicides for the year.
