30 ‘qualified archers’ in 2nd Annual David Abednego Cup this weekend
Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago both participated in last year’s championship, while the United States Virgin Islands will make its first appearance at the event this year, adding another dimension to the regional competition.
This year’s National Indoor Championships, according to the Virgin Islands Field Archery Federation (VIFAF), represent another step forward in the development of competitive archery in the Virgin Islands. For the first time, archers were required to qualify for the championship, raising the standard for participation and creating an even more competitive field.
Qualification requirement
The VIFAF said this year’s tournament has attracted 30 qualified archers, ranging from Cubs to Veterans competing across the various styles, divisions and categories of field archery.
The introduction of a qualification requirement this year, VIFAF added, reflects VIFAF’s commitment to maintaining and developing competitive standards as the sport continues to grow.
Competition will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day, with archers shooting 120 arrows over the two days.
The championship is named after David Abednego of Harbour Chambers, the main sponsor of the event.
VIFAF is inviting the public to experience competitive indoor field archery firsthand.
Admission for spectators is free.
