ARIMA, Trinidad- The Virgin Islands men’s national rugby team ended their participation at the 2025 Caribbean Rugby 7s Championships with 3 wins and 3 losses.

The tournament, which took place from November 21 to 23, 2025, in Arima, Trinidad, saw the VI losing both its matches on day 1.

Team Manager Mark Jones, in a report to Virgin Islands News Online, revealed that the team lost its first match to St. Lucia 12-5, and its second match against the Turks and Caicos Islands 33-7.

“A disappointing opening to the tournament, but BVI got to bed early, determined to change their fortunes on day 2. BVI, with its back up against the wall, opened the day with a big win against St Vincent 24 -0. To secure a place in the finals, BVI needed to keep winning but went down 15-0 to eventual Tier 2 winners Curacao, 15-0,” the report added.

Come back on Day 3

On day 3, the team went up against the Bahamas, who had 3 wins and 1 loss as the underdogs. The team, however, were able to “pull out all their tools”, taking down Bahamas 17-7 with a hat trick of tries from Jayden Williams.

“Finally hitting their stride after a less-than-ideal start to the tournament, BVI got a final match against St Vincent. BVI were determined to show the crowds that Saturday's destruction of St Vincent was not a fluke, dismantling them once again with a score of 28 -14 in a game that never looked close,” Jones’ report said.

He added that the team did the territory proud but still has “plenty of work to do” in order to defeat other countries in a “highly competitive field next year”.

The leading scorer for the Virgin Islands was Jayden Williams. The team was coached by BVI RFU Rugby Development Officer and National team coach James Morris of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom.
