ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Three detainees who escaped the Department of Immigration detention facility on Friday, March 11, 2022, have reportedly been recaptured.

The recaptured persons have been listed as Slovans Semaus, Hermosa Raul and Milson Catul.

In a press release on March 11, 2022, Chief Immigration Officer, Mr Ian B. Penn had said that a total of nine (9) immigrants who were detained by the Immigration Department escaped from detention at Castle Maria Hotel; however, one was recaptured.

With three persons now recaptured, this means that 5 persons of interest are still at large.

“The search is still ongoing for the others who remain at large,” Immigration Department stated in a press release on March 14, 2022.

Public thanked for support

Chief Immigration Officer, Mr Ian B. Penn thanked the public for its support and for the information provided thus far which resulted in the recapture of three of the escapees. He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue assisting in the recapture of the escapees who are still at large.

Mr Penn reminded the public that it is an offence to assist or harbor any of the escapees.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of these individuals are asked to contact the Immigration Department at 468-4700, 468-4715 or 468-4754 or the Royal Virgin Island Police Force hotline at 311/911.

The trail leads to the old Prospect reef Hotel. Make a emergency raid down there and you will see. That is where the the boat picks them up to transport them to St.Thomas VIA St.John.

If detainees are always escaping from Castle Maria that means the hotel is not equip to house detainees. Immigration needs to find another place to house them where they cannot escape.

The illegal detainees should be held on a barge in the harbor until deportation. They would not be able to escape from a barge sitting in the harbor like they are doing in a hotel on land.
