3 homicides in one day push USVI’s 2026 total to 20

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI- Three homicides were reported in the US Virgin Islands on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, with two fatal shootings on St Thomas and one killing on St Croix, bringing the territory’s homicide count for 2026 to 20. The year’s total is now evenly split, with 10 homicides recorded on St Croix and 10 on St Thomas.

The information was gathered from VIPD detectives by VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte.

3 fatalities by gun violence

The first homicide was reported Tuesday afternoon in Hospital Ground on St. Thomas. According to the Virgin Islands Police Department, a concerned citizen called the 911 Emergency Call Center at approximately 3:40 p.m. to report gunshots fired in the area.

Law enforcement officers responded to Hospital Ground and found an unresponsive male who appeared to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds about his body. Emergency Medical Technicians traveled to the scene and concluded that the victim did not have any vital signs.

The victim was identified by his next of kin as 23-year-old Asani Henry.

A second homicide was reported hours later in the Sanchez Town area of St Thomas. Police said that at approximately 6:29 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report from a concerned citizen regarding shots fired, followed by reports of a male victim down in the area.

Officers and emergency personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, responders found an unresponsive male victim who was pronounced deceased.

The VIPD said all necessary units responded and began an investigation. The case remains active with the Criminal Investigation Bureau. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The third homicide was reported on St Croix near the Profit Hills community. At approximately 7:53 p.m. Tuesday, a concerned citizen contacted the Criminal Investigation Bureau to report a possible body in the area.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau, along with the Special Operations Bureau, checked the area and found the body of a male lying on the ground in a heavily vegetated area north of Profit Hills. Police said it appeared that the victim had sustained several gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and confirmed that the male did not have any vital signs.

Next of kin identified the deceased as 20-year-old Amani Daley.

VIPD is asking anyone with information about any of these homcides to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211, extensions 5555 or 5556. Tips may also be provided to the Major Crimes Unit at 340-642-8449 via WhatsApp, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or 911.

The three killings remain under investigation.
