25 students of SGSS inducted into Rotary family
The Interact Club was established on December 1, 2017.
During her remarks, Karia J. Christopher, President of the Rotary Club of Tortola, stated that the induction of the new members is a wonderful start to the Rotary Club of Tortola's 50th Anniversary celebration.
She said, "Its about service beyond self and we at Rotary Club of Tortola would like to encourage you to put yourself first before anyone else, to give without any expectation of getting anything back. This is a milestone and not only to pretty up your resume but this is a lesson learnt for all 25 of you."
Following the remarks by President of the Rotary Club of Tortola, Mrs Christopher presented one of twelve computers to Dr Antoinette Rock, Principal of SGSS.
"I'm very thankful to the Rotary Club of Tortola for noticing the gap and donated twelve laptops," expressed Dr Rock.
"It's always pleasing to see young people unite" - Dr Smith
Dr The Honourable D Orlando Smith (AL), Premier and Minister of Finance, during his congratulatory message encouraged the new inductees to embrace being in the Rotary family as an opportunity.
He emphasised, "I encourage you to embrace this as an opportunity to participate in fun and meaningful service projects while developing leadership skills and meeting new friends. It's always pleasing to see young people unite."
Closing the programme, Hunter T. Christopher, President of SGSS Interact Club, urged her fellow Interactors that being in he club is about "giving back and inspiring others".
In an interview with Ms Christopher (Hunter), she stated that she is "excited" to be the President and to make a difference in the community.
The only boy on the Interact board, Michael Chen, Sargeant at Arms, told our news reporter that "he does not see it as anything different because it is a similar situation in his class", adding that there are only three boys.
