ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- 225 youngsters between the ages of 11 and 17 are being engaged in a beautification project across the Territory.

The project, conducted by the Department of Waste Management, began on Monday, July 15, 2024.

Communities in every district will benefit from the beautification project.

According to a press release from the Department of Waste Management, the young participants will be educated about environmental management as well as receive hands-on training on the work required to keep their surroundings clean and beautiful.

'Environmentally considerate & responsive community'

“I am happy to see this initiative continue as it affords our young people another opportunity to interact with the environment and enhance their social responsibility to take care of it.

"We are trying to create a more environmentally considerate and responsive community and the youth is a vital part of the process,” Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) said.

Meanwhile, Director of Waste Management, Mr Marcus E. Solomon said each district is focusing on one project identified by team leaders. He said this includes beach and roadway cleanups or painting of walls or buildings.

Mr Solomon said progress can be seen in photos taken of the “wonderful job” being done by the children. He added, “We hope to continue this programme and continue to inspire the youth to be more environmentally conscious.”

The beautification program will conclude on Friday, July 19, 2024.

    4 days of employment?
    REALLY??

I would propose, that next year, this project is a two month long issue, starting from two weeks, AFTER, the end of school, during the summer, until two weeks prior to the start of the new school year!

Help our young people earn REAL DOLLARS, that could assist their parents, and themselves, in the purchase of school supplies, and other needs, during this season of financial drought!

The cleanliness of the environment cannot recieve any real attention, worth talking about, in a mere four days!!!!

glad to see the young people them getting something to do on the side.

I prefer our youths involved in hobbies or after school activities rather than partying, drinking, smoking, following the wrong crowd, grinding on festival. Don't let these activities entice or pressure you young people. There's more to life than what you see your peers and adults do and you should always practice good morals don't follow the wrong people with their piss
