ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The people of the Virgin Islands are asked to join their hearts and hands in unity in 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting for their safety and protection and that of the economy.

This announcement was made during a live statement by Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) on July 9, 2021, titled, “Let’s Bring the COVID-19 Situation Back Under Control.”

'We will win this battle'- Premier

The 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting will commence today, Sunday, July 11, 2021, and will run from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm daily for 21 consecutive days.

Premier Fahie stated, “Choose your own time in the day and individually or collectively petition GOD to continue to keep us all safe and protected from the plans of the enemy. We will win this battle. I look forward to our people coming together, praying together, and believing in GOD together, as we once again watch GOD work.”

Inspiration from holy scriptures of Daniel

According to Government Information Service (GIS), the Premier commented this morning that the 21-day Prayer and Fast is inspired by Holy Scriptures of Daniel and additionally as words written in Ezra 8:21-23 which states, …I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions….So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.”

“I am asking persons to send up the praise and prayers to Abba, our Father. Our ancestors always took refuge in the Hands of GOD and they saw victory prevail. Let us keep each other safe. Let us make sure that we focus our efforts on building up each other.  Let us focus on making sure that our economy is strengthened and not weakened. Let us continue to unite in our love for these Virgin Islands. Let us all do our part to save our Virgin Islands and to restore and preserve our way of life. Let us each do everything that is in our power to keep our people and our shores safe, in BVILOVE. We’re in this together.”

Daily scriptures and encouragement will be shared on the Government of the Virgin Islands website www.bvi.gov.vg, and official social media pages: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube @BVIGovernment.

      Of course prayers will help us. Nothing is impossible with God. Go read the story of Gideon in Judges chapter 6 and 7. God will give us a strategy to overcome all of this. In the name of Jesus, He will.

        @ Prayer is the answer
        It is the best decision ever. The person who made that negative comment against prayer needs prayer also. Prayer and fasting worked back in bible days and is still powerful today. It was Jesus' method. When his disciples asked how he was able to work miracles, He said "these come only by prayer and fasting". Let us humble ourselves and pray. Let us say daily "create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me". There's nothing too hard for our God Jehovah. "He is able to do exceedingly and abundandtly Above ALL that we believe or think". His Word is Powerful. Let us pray, believe and claim them. Then they're some who will always claim that God does not exist. To them the Word of God declares boldly: "the Fool has said in his heart there is no god!"

        My dear God gave us the strategy not to vaccinate with all the warning and we pay no heed like the children of Israel. Now in Daniel and revelation a 1/3 of the earth will be wiped away. When God speaks if you are not a good listener you will pay for it

      @ Hmm....just google and you will see that there are different fasts, e.g. periodic fruit fasts etc. A fast does not mean total abstinence from food or liquids.

    Please remember to social distance when praying and I don’t think we h@ve to worry about the fast. Most of us could use a little fast.

      @ clear as day: some people's job is to identify all the "false prophets". Meanwhile, are they true prophets? No, they are neither on the bank or in the river, but somewhere in the middle. However, there is no middle ground. You are either a follower of Christ or you are not. Let the Just Judge be the one to judge. For with the same judgement you mete, you too will be judged.

    What complete and utter crap. Fasting weakens the body and makes you more susceptible to disease and infection.

    Unbelievable response from a government in the 21st century. Even the mad mullahs aren’t that crazy.

        What factors can depress our immune system?

        Older age: As we age, our internal organs may become less efficient; immune-related organs like the thymus or bone marrow produce less immune cells needed to fight off infections. Aging is sometimes associated with micronutrient deficiencies, which may worsen a declining immune function.
        Environmental toxins (smoke and other particles contributing to air pollution, excessive alcohol): These substances can impair or suppress the normal activity of immune cells.
        Excess weight: Obesity is associated with low-grade chronic inflammation. Fat tissue produces adipocytokines that can promote inflammatory processes. [1] Research is early, but obesity has also been identified as an independent risk factor for the influenza virus, possibly due to the impaired function of T-cells, a type of white blood cell. [2]
        Poor diet: Malnutrition or a diet lacking in one or more nutrients can impair the production and activity of immune cells and antibodies.
        Chronic diseases: Autoimmune and immunodeficiency disorders attack and potentially disable immune cells.
        Chronic mental stress: Stress releases hormones like cortisol that suppresses inflammation (inflammation is initially needed to activate immune cells) and the action of white blood cells.
        Lack of sleep and rest: Sleep is a time of restoration for the body, during which a type of cytokine is released that fights infection; too little sleep lowers the amount of these cytokines and other immune cells.

      I believe that the reason you expressed that view, is because you somehow seem to believe that there is a black god and a white god; but please note that there is One God...and he who worships God (The Creator and Father), are to worship Him in spirit and in truth.

    Take God serious no matter what. You don't have to be amongst others in order to fast and pray. Whether people have done bad or good we should all pray to the Almighty God for help no matter the circumstances.

    Prayers and fasting ain’t going to help. God gave us a brain and intelligence no other animal on Earth can think and figure out what’s killing it or find cures. He also gave us dominion over the Earth, Genesis 1.26.

    Take the vaccine guys the proof is in the pudding.

    USVI low case numbers 40+% vaccinated. BVI explosion extremely low vaccination.

    God is not some genie who just magically wiffs things away. God help those who help themselves.
    I can only hope now that death rate does increase in the next 4weeks.

    He need to pray on this - the Premier’s Office administered the farmer and fisher grant programme, excluding the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration;
    • some farmer grants apparently were inflated by the Premier’s Office to be greater than requested, with one applicant receiving more than $13,000 after requesting $50.99 for a roll of barbed wire and $371 to build a fence;
    • 11 of 22 purported farms selected for site visits could not be located;
    • about half the farmer grant recipients weren’t registered as farmers at the Department of Agriculture;
    • more than half the fisher grant recipients weren’t registered in government’s database, and more was paid to unlicensed fishers than licensed ones;
    • in at least one instance, three people received fisher grants for the same boat; and
    • ultimately, the Premier’s Office failed to use Cabinet procedures for implementing and monitoring the stimulus, and millions in public money were disbursed without sufficient oversight.
