ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Young athletes in the Virgin Islands are receiving the necessary skills to excel in basketball, as the Sports Vision Academy (SVA) officially opened its 2025 basketball programme.

The programme's opening day was held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, in an atmosphere of energy and enthusiasm where exceptional athleticism was on display at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Road Town.

SVA continues to be the cornerstone of grassroots sports development in the Virgin Islands (VI), offering structured, competitive play for young athletes aged 9 to 16.

5 games played in 12 U, 14 U, and 16 U on opening day

Five games were played following the opening ceremony of the third SVA: 12 and Under Celtics versus Blazers, 14 and Under Nuggets versus Lakers, 12 and Under Nets versus Grizzles, 16 and Under Wolves versus Suns, and 16 and Under Ducks versus Knicks.

SVA President Mr Eustace C. Freeman said, "This is just the beginning…We’re building more than athletes—we’re building leaders, discipline, and a lifelong love for the game. We are incredibly thankful for our sponsors and the community for believing in this vision."

The academy hopes for a season of growth during the next two months. The league concludes on July 19, 2025.

Corporate Sponsors

The league is being supported by several local corporate entities. They are Unite BVI, The Guana Fund, WOW Experience, RTW, Nagico, CTL, Quality Air Conditioning, Ale’s Marine, No Limit Constructions, Beyond the Décor, Conyers, Speedy's Ferry Service, and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (DYAS).

SVA said their contributions have played a pivotal role in launching this impactful initiative, helping to provide a structured, inclusive, and inspiring environment for aspiring athletes.
