2025 BVI Dinghy Championships a success

-first international sailors competed since 2018

SIR FRANCIS DRAKE CHANNEL, Nanny Cay, VI- The Royal BVI Yacht Club (RBVIYC) hosted the 2025 BVI Dinghy Championships last weekend, May 10 to 11, 2025, at Nanny Cay.

The event also marked the return of international competitors in the event since 2018 with the participation of sailors from John KATS, St John Yacht Club, Coral Bay Yacht Club and the St Thomas Yacht Club.

According to a press release from the club on May 13, 2025, 31 sailing dinghies entered the event, consisting of ILCAs, RSFevas and Optimists. 

Results

The Optimists completed 11 races, with the other fleets all doing 10 races.

  • 1st Finn Hodgins (STT) 22 points

The club thanked all the sailors for their participation, especially the teams from St John and St Thomas.  

They also thanked the volunteers on the committee boat, mark boat and safety boat and the RBVIYC coaching team for all their hard work.

    It was so great to see so many small boats out racing as I drove by one day. didn't realise it was a big event. Good to see.

    There were 10 races over 2 days(11 for Optis) so each sailor was allowed a throw out for their worst finish. Check out the 2 class winners with only 10 points! This result signifies that each winner won 8 races and placed 2nd in one race; amazing consistency!

      We remember Mr Presley King very well. It is several years since he sailed dinghies so let's give congratulations to those that are now representing the BVI. May he sail on in eternal peace.
